yes, they SOUND ethical. But they are not. It's a bullshit story meant to cover their ass. Everything that is written there CAN be achieved with embedding youtube videos. They are a hypocrites and no better than ebaumsworld, break or any other video ripping re-hosting website. Their website may be simple and great to use, they may have a better selection of videos that is SFW, but they are still stealing.

there is a difference. Unlike wimp, youtube gets millions of videos uploaded by thousands of users every single day. Wimp has 6 videos per day, one guy can do that and have full control over it. So he knows what he's posting and where he got it from. All those shows and movies have companies behind them that are suing Youtube for making money on their copyrighted materials. Most of the videos that get posted on wimp are not from shows and big tv productions, they have no one to represent them and protect their rights. Anyways, whatever youtube is or is not doing - wimp is still stealing videos and making money on them. Sure, other websites do that too, but wimp shouldn't get defended like they are somehow different from the likes of break, liveleak, college humor, ebaumsworld and others.

nothing, they are just as bad as all of those but they are also hypocrites with an elaborate story why they steal. Bottom line is - they steal too. It would be nice if redditors would make more effort in order to link to the original video and weed out the youtube copycats that come here with their stolen shit to get the views. It's usually pretty obvious when that is the case. Yeah, that'd be great. Unfortunately, nothing will change. Still, one should be able to point out that someone is stealing without getting a bunch of people on your ass, trivializing the issue.

somewhat true. Youtube offers you to make money on popular videos and become a content partner even if you are not a full youtube partner like FreddieW and co. So you can become a partner on a single video. Someone like RWJ makes a lot of money because every single video he makes gets over 4 million views and most videos in question won't go over a one million mark. But you never know, what if a hypothetical video in question becomes the next Charlie bit my finger. I'd be pissed of is someone robbed me of a lifetime opportunity ( remember nowadays theirs a bunch of TV shows and marketers that want to license footage for their purposes, so it's not only adsense) because the stolen version got all the views. The same principle applies to Wimp and everyone else who copies youtube videos for their personal gain. People that get those charlie bit my finger, is this real life moments on camera have only one opportunity, they are not FreedieW and don't know how to make a viral video every other week. Bottom line, people on the internet should respect other people's rights more. There is really no reason to make copies of something that is already on youtube and has an embed code.

but there's a reason why those videos aren't viewed outside US. They have copyrighted music. In that case the video creator can't make any money on Youtube, but someone is still losing money based on their copyright. Anyways, Wimp is simple and easy to use, I admit that, and they are a tone of websites that do the same shit, I just don't like their hypocrisy. They have this elaborate bullshit why they do this but bottom line what they are doing is still stealing. Their Alexa rank is 1,614 and that means they have millions of views daily. That's a lot of money, even with what they pay for the servers.

no they don't. That's not a real link, you have to copy and paste it manually, and even if it was - it's not the same as embedding. Click-through rates are always minimal, not even close to the effect of an embedded video. They've ripped off so many video throughout the years it's not even funny. Last example: this went viral after they posted it and someone re-uploaded it youtube. That copy had millions of views. But this is the original video and the owner didn't make a dime on it nor is it mentioned on wimp.

"videomaker makes no money off of any view that comes from the embedded player" - false. If a video is popular you get to display adsense ads within the video and they are shown even if the video is embedded and you make money per click. If someone steals your video and you dont get those view - you dont get to have ads on it. Simple as that. There is no justification for what wimp is doing. All that crap about family friendly website is doable with embedding original youtube videos( nowadays you can embed stuff in a way that prevents people from clicking on a video and going to youtube). The difference is - you are not taking someone content without their permission, stripping them off potential adsense and TV rights earnings.

sometimes, but otherwise they just steal a video, someone else steals it from them, that version goes viral because no one can find where the video came from, while the original upload still sits in anonymity, robbed of millions of views and potential adsense revenue and TV rights. Credits don't give you money, or the views because the click through rate is minimal, especially the way do it where you have to copy and paste the link. There is simply no valid excuse for not embedding original videos.

Not all true. Break does sometimes pay for videos, but also features a lot of videos that are copies of popular viral videos, without the owners permission.

obviously it doesn't work if you see the logo and still link to the copy of a video. I am surprised all these thieves didn't bother to cut the begging of the video since this guy thought it is OK to put "catchblog" logo on a stolen video.

It is a great video, but I will have to complain. Three times on reddit and it was never linked to the original upload, even though it's really easy to find. Come on, people, lets give credit to people who make cool stuff, not steal it.

Love the video, but the title is wrong - it's a Portuguese dude, he is singing on the Santa Catarina Street in the city of Porto, which is in Portugal. It says right there in the video description.

I think he is just acting tough, obviously doesn't come in contact with strangers often. He's a good cat and wont scratch the guy, but he was scared. No one is mistreating him though, so he's fine. He needs to socialize a bit more, that is all.

This is a comedy troupe Prima from Kursk and their sketch in a popular Russian TV show competition KVN. Not only it's a parody of the Russian President Dmitry Medvedev dance from earlier this year, but it recently got censored by Russian state TV. More info here and here.
