they are brutally thorough. if you consent to a background check, make sure you get a copy for your own records. Large companies contract out to a 3rd party and they do all the digging; checking for known aliases, criminal record, permanent address, social security number, education, grade reports, etc. Best not to make a mistake when filling out job apps...double and triple check and have someone proof it before you send it off
