TROPHY CASE

Um, is the FCD Pro illegal in the US? by buttezin amateurradio

[–]jerr0328 0 points1 point ago

RadioReference has a page on what "cell blocking" means. It might help you get the information you're looking for, but I'd assume you would be ok. It's not so much a concern anymore since, unless you're decoding encrypted cell phone conversations, you'll be fine.

Fall 2012 Transfer Application Denied: Anyone have success in appealing in the past? by rejectedAAtransferin ucf

[–]jerr0328 1 point2 points ago

Did you get your AA? UCF very rarely takes transfers that don't have an AA. If you did get your AA from somewhere other than central Florida, I'm pretty sure there is some rule on them accepting you (I think a university has to accept you, but it could be any one in Florida). Which state community college did you attend?

I found some actual research done on this, results seem to show no difference between regular chairs (better to use actual ergonomic chairs).

31 FHP troopers disciplined for speeding by Webguy55in florida

[–]jerr0328 3 points4 points ago

I was speeding on the turnpike one day and saw a car coming up quickly behind me. I got in the right lane to let this lunatic pass and saw it was a state trooper. I was just glad I didn't get pulled over, though he was probably off duty.

High-speed rail would have been profitable by brunnockin florida

[–]jerr0328 3 points4 points ago

It would have been profitable for the state, but would have been a loss for his friends in the highway construction, asphalt, and rubber industries. He doesn't want any system that threatens to reduce the amount of people on the roads driving their cars. Rick Scott is a true crook.

I am president of Spokescouncil, the bike advocacy club at UCF. AMA by MrMustachioin ucf

[–]jerr0328 7 points8 points ago

First I'd like to thank Spokescouncil for helping me fix my bike (could get into the third gear on the front gears, still has trouble but at least I can get to it now).

Anyhow, I'd always wanted to bike to campus since I live just east from campus (McCulloch/Tanner area). I'd initially thought I might cut through Boca Woods community, but they apparently blocked it off now since they didn't want students cutting through their neighborhood. That leaves me with McCulloch, but that road is quite scary on both the sidewalks (which is uneven from the trees and has shitty sprinklers) and the road (one lane in each direction + people who can't drive means you're gonna have a bad time). Tanner has bicycle lanes, so what do we need to do to get Orange/Seminole counties to get together and bike-lane that area?

Also, I longboard on campus. My general understanding is that if I see/hear a cyclist, I will try to let them pass, but if a cyclist and a skateboarder come to the same intersection, the cyclist should let the skateboarder have right-of-way (bikes have brakes, boards don't have the same stopping power). I rarely crash into people unless they cut me off or do something completely random, but only once have I crashed into a bike (I don't really remember the details, I think he was riding in the middle, decided to turn right and cut me off when I was going straight). Seems fair?

I'm saying your comment is spam because someone else already called this a repost. I suggest reading the reddiquette so you understand that comments like "This is a repost" posted 20 different times is spam, not helpful at all (especially when you can simply upvote the existing comment, or, better yet, be productive and link to the other one). If you had clicked the link, you would've seen I pointed at the previous comment several hours before yours declaring this a repost.

Not sure if commenter realizes this, but this comment is a repost, and for that, you get a downvote

Another reason we call UF "University of Felons." Don't worry, he'll get away no problem because UF has lawyers that represent athletes for free (which somehow isn't an NCAA violation, but really should be).

Dear r/frugal, If you sign up for a service as a student for discounted rates do you feel it is okay to use those rates when you finish school? by [deleted]in Frugal

[–]jerr0328 5 points6 points ago

I don't think carriers care. If that's what it takes to sign up and the reps signing you up can show that you've shown some proof of having worked there, they'll be happy to have you as a customer. When I signed up with Sprint (only lasted a month with them, but different story), I told them I wasn't even working there full time, that I just did summer internships. They didn't care, just asked to see a paystub (I showed them my bank statement with the direct deposit info) from the past year and they took it.

They really want your business because as long as you're with them, they're making money. They got you in via those deals, which was essentially a form of marketing via employers.

Also, you can probably get a lot of discounts just by asking. Threaten to cancel service or not renew and you'll generally see companies try to figure out a way to make their service the cheapest.

Why isnt UCF internet always this fast? by tauzinsin ucf

[–]jerr0328 2 points3 points ago

To add to this, UCF's IT hasn't been adapting very well to increased demands, especially over WiFi. If you took a spectrum analyzer to the 2.4 GHz WiFi band, you'd essentially see 3 "humps" representing 3 usable channels. Though we know there's like 11 channels, you can only really use 3 at a time due to the size of those "humps" (the literal bandwidth of the signal). Now think about the classroom buildings around campus. A 300+ seat lecture hall, with 100s of students with computers or other internet devices on are all trying to connect. You need physical access points to handle those, and each access point has a limited number of clients it can handle.

So yeah, if you go on campus at a quieter time in the morning or evening, you'll get more bandwidth out, but remember that you still have thousands of other students accessing the Internet from the UCF network, plus other resources (research going on, UCF's web services, etc.) going out as well.

Also, as someone else mentioned, if the BF3 installer uses something like BitTorrent (like World of Warcraft uses for its updates), then yeah, someone on the UCF network may be transferring you the files as well, which would explain the insane speeds.
