Not in my opinion. I lived in NYC and thought the people were equally as friendly (contrary to popular belief), met some of the nicest people on the planet when I lived in Texas, now I'm in Kentucky and the old southern hospitality thing is not a myth.

I am a Canadian living in the US and have no complaints, as such you could try Canada as an alternate. Bonus: Canadians and Kiwis get along great I have worked/am friends with plenty of your kind.
