Function call overhead benchmarks with MATLAB, Octave, Python, Cython and C by roger_in Python

You should email the author. I'm sure he'd like the feedback at this early stage of his publication.

I built a site and a widget that helps startups get feedback for their website. I would like to know if this is something you would use for your business website. by payymein Entrepreneur

[–]jeffus 1 point2 points ago

Great idea. I'll try it out. Initial thoughts: I would like a more descriptive button (options to change the fist icon or add text; it's a little aggressive for some sites). I would also like an "x" button to minimize the fist as it's not clear that you need to reclick the fist.

Python.org Redesign Request For Proposals by jnollerin Python

Surely, but what will the fallout look like? Hard feelings all around, I imagine.

Do you expect a framework war? It would be a nice thing for a framework community to claim the python site as their own.

Anyone have experience with this? How does it uWSGI compare to gunicorn? Some say none, some say uWSGI has a lower memory profile. Thoughts?

So you plan to patent something so you can license it to one company? Is my understanding correct?

Data analysis of GitHub timeline data by kafka399in MachineLearning

Very cool, but I'd like to see the first two plots with a little less "smooth". You know that the curvature is an artifact of the smoother when the end points don't line up.

If you owned a 3,000 sq.ft. building zoned for commercial in a suburban setting, what otherwise low start-up cost business would you fill it with? by WonderHoneybeein Entrepreneur

Self-serve yogurt + topping bar + one person at register/scale.

edit: you'd still have room left over. Rent the rest as photographer studio space; cheap DSLRs have made everyone a pro.

Dinero.py: Gateway-agnostic payment processing for Python by Chrotoin Python

[–]jeffus 1 point2 points ago

I like the idea, but I'm not sure I understand: so this is something we'd use to wrap a given gateway? Are there any that exist already for use with Dinero?

Automating pip and virtualenv with shell scripts by PindiAlbertin Python

What do most people do: place virtualenvs in a folder like ~/.virtualenv/ or in the directly of the project that they need a virtualenv for?

As this is /r/Python, can you talk more about the specific QT Widgets? Would love to hear about your experiences with freeze.

Can you talk about what classes you used to get that functionality? Also, what "freeze" package will you be using for deployment?

Choosing a specialization? by YouJagaloonin compsci

[–]jeffus 0 points1 point ago

I'd say if you're good at algorithms and complexity or scientific computing, you'll be able to pick up the rest pretty easily, although HCI, depending on your program, may integrate more psychology/statistics.

If you're thinking about having a wide array of jobs available, I'd choose one of those, and dabble in the others that might interest you. Intern over the summers to get the actual software engineering or, for example, HCI experience.

I agree, much matrix math than art; although, the school might offer a softer graphics class.
