Generating strings of numbers seems like a waste of energy. I'd rather have that energy in the form of charged batteries.

best device(s) to control a space ship? by jecowain 0x10c

[–]jecowa[S] 1 point2 points ago

You can twist your joystick like a door knob? Is this a common feature?

Is the hat switch digital like a D-pad - or is it analog like the main joystick?

Your setup sounds pretty good. I didn't realize joysticks had all these features.

Who here isn't confused 'bout what the game is going to be like? by NeedsAGoodUsernamein 0x10c

[–]jecowa 9 points10 points ago

Notch said the game would be more about the people inside the ship than the ship itself, so maybe it will be something like Faster Than Light only in 3D and with multiplayer.

Stairs in a spaceship by MrGuy92in 0x10c

[–]jecowa 2 points3 points ago

An advantage to having wheelchair characters is that we wouldn't need to put chairs down at every computer - we could just roll up.

In most games you can see the character's hands on the bottom of the screen most of the time, but in this game you would see the player's knees on the bottom.

Our chairs could be powered by batteries. If the batteries ran out we could hand-roll the wheels to get around, but we couldn't use tools or weapons while hand-rolling the chair.

Maybe we could mount Gatling guns or lasers onto the chairs. Heavier chairs would run slower and use batteries faster, though.

I'm fine with stairs not working. Maybe Notch can make all our characters wheelchair-bound due to the effects of long-term use of the deep sleep chambers. Then he wouldn't have to worry about getting stairs to work.

[Theory] Notch's one big lie by jecowain 0x10c

[–]jecowa[S] 0 points1 point ago

The 0x10c.com website says that all computers and physics are going to be emulated even when players aren't logged in, but maybe that optional depending on whether or not you choose to log out with the SPC2000 device.

Also, if the SCP2000 isn't for long distance travel, then what is the scientific explanation for its inclusion? The specs say its purpose is long journeys. But maybe we are able to travel like 10,000,000 times the speed of light, but we were planning to travel to a distant galaxy about 30,000 light years away.

Do you know Swedish?

[Theory] Notch's one big lie by jecowain 0x10c

[–]jecowa[S] 1 point2 points ago

It looks like the SPC2000 is intended for us to use to travel between star systems. Maybe Notch has a faster-than-light drive planned, but then what's the SPC2000's function if we can travel to distant star systems in seconds?

I would love to hear alternate theories.

The reason why people should not sleep at beaches by darkreef2in WTF

[–]jecowa -1 points0 points ago

Compared to the Northern Hemisphere, the Southern Hemisphere is closer to the sun in the summer time and farther from it in the winter. So the people down under get the most extreme temperatures in both the summer and winter.

Seeing that nanites are an advanced computer/robotics technology, I doubt we will see them in the game. The DCPU-16 is the most advanced computer of the time, and it is probably not microscopic.

Notch said he messed up the auto-start in your chat log. Does that mean that Notch didn't actually start the second puzzle until a day after he tweeted about the pulsar feed slowing down?

Was the "prize" of the second pulsar feed the specific time of Notch's birthday party?

Perhaps the white text boxes and the white text itself should both be set to an off white - like maybe #dddddd.

And maybe the self-post icons should be black or a little less bright?

The code led to a URL (http://dcpu.com/highnerd/), but Notch just removed the link a couple days ago. The link revealed Notch's first edition of his official DCPU-16 emulator. He has since released an updated version of the emulator, though it is now also out of date. His latest emulator is version 1.4 while the latest specification is at version 1.7.

Who hopes 0x10c is going to be a wild and un-tamable beast of a game? by salix_catusin 0x10c

The thing Notch said about it being a trading simulator was from over a year ago. He's had lots of time to change his mind since then.

Space is big an empty. I don't think it will be very dangerous. Space pirates might be a problem, but Notch says that we are safe from PvP by default.

Notch said he wants to make a space trading simulator done right. This game may be more about trading than fighting. Some danger would make it more interesting, though.

Want kind of background music would you like to see implemented into this game? by DullDieHardin 0x10c

[–]jecowa 0 points1 point ago

I think Notch might actually go for this. He did say, "There will be no sound in space, and that's a promise!", though he was talking more about sound effects. Either way, we can always turn off background music if we want silence. It makes more sense for the only music in the game to come from cassette players.

I don't think OP was intending his post to be completely serious. I think the second frame of the picture is intended to be the punchline of a joke.
