What is the purpose of this post? Calling out /r/trees based on the first reply you received to a thread that by its nature is most likely to get replies from people who feel provoked? That's silly. No need to start intrareddit drama.

As it happens, the answer to this debate is simple: /r/mlp is currently nicer because it's one-tenth the size. Size inversely correlates extremely strongly with civility in online communities, particularly for cases like /r/trees and /r/mlp where both communities start with similarly strong niceness modifiers. /r/trees was pretty damn nice when it was had 2k subs.

That is actually somewhat fair. The ease of redistribution would make the "used" market so powerful that it could entirely cripple "new" sales, if it were unrestricted.

How about if we like people to actually display some effort? A good example of what I'd like to see was, what was his name... Sean Plott, back in the SC2 beta! This guy, Sean, he used to work really hard and try to teach his viewers are a lot. You could tell he was thinking and trying hard, and really appreciated how much we appreciated him.

By contrast, Day[9] always sounds like he's casting on autopilot, not thinking nor paying attention to his cocasters, and hillariously over-confident. No depth and no class.

Day[9] needs to take some notes from Sean.

Day[9] is terrible. He was one of the best (a) before there was any competition, such as tastosis and (b) before he became a celebrity and stopped putting any effort into anything. He casts on autopilot, entirely ignoring any cocaster, and sounds like an idiot.

I think creating this discontinuity with the real world is significant, because I think Notch might be creating the deepest/most interesting virtual world so far, and requiring people to invest themselves in it far enough to produce tools to work in his environment will emphasize that distinction.

I love this idea so much. People are going to be making their own languages, their own operating systems, everything from scratch, in a new slightly different 30-year-old computing universe.

Notch sold MineCraft now he can fund this game, the game of our dreams. He didn't care abut MC itself enough to really work on it a ton, nor should he, because this game is the only thing he need ever do to go down as one of the more important and awesome game developers in history, if he does it right.

I don't know the CSS they're using, but it seems plausible that they could just hide the clickable link and only show the image through an :after attribute or something. I wonder... (edit: okay, they don't use those attributes already so this would probably be a hit to compatibility. Might be worth treating this as a special-case, though.)
