Reddit, I'm in the closet, and my sister keeps on stealing my sex toys. by BeMyThrowawayin AskReddit

Your sister doesn't have any leverage, she's the one using your sex toys.

I got a speeding ticket for 21mph in a 15mph school zone. Am I screwed if I fight it? by iksnumskawin AskReddit

[–]jdrama83 0 points1 point ago

Always show up to court. 90% of the time the officer will offer you a reduced charge and possibly a lower fine. And on the off-chance that he doesn't show up, you win by default. Paying the ticket is the equivalent to a guilty plea so unless you can't spare the time, you've got nothing to lose.

Why the season seven finale is horrifying by BeastWith2Backsin Supernatural

[–]jdrama83 2 points3 points ago

Conflict makes the most compelling stories. Seasons 6 and 7 were lacking because there wasn't a strong, consistent narrative. With all of this on the table (plus Dean, Cass, and whoever else in Purgatory) I can't wait for season 8.

Discuss Jury Nullification with your potential fellow jurors. Not only will they definitely not choose you, but you will have tainted the rest of the jury pool.

That's not racist, it's just a crass thing to say about a stereotype that's based in some truth.

My motives? They were heavily involved in making this a national media story. It's not like I picked their names out of a hat. Forget it, I'll just come back and gloat when Zimmerman gets let off.

How old are you really? Even if I were racist it wouldn't affect my argument, but after this much back and forth, I just don't think you're bright enough to understand why.

More importantly, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are race-baiting charlatans. They make a living by drumming up attention around cases in which there could possibly be race-based injustice, regardless of the facts, just google Tawana Brawley.

However, if it makes you feel better to label me a bigot rather than admit you're wrong, by all means.

The big picture? That's adorable when you still refuse to acknowledge that Trayvon Martin got violent first. I'll bookmark it and laugh my ass off when they set Zimmerman free. There's a reason Zimmerman was released so shortly after the shooting. It's because the cops knew there wasn't a case. The only reason this sham of a thing might go before a jury is because a bunch of loudmouths like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson made it about race.

You're not big on critical thinking are you? Initiating contact isn't illegal, but assault is, and that's what Trayvon did.

You're confused again, it's not murder when you're being attacked, it's justifiable homicide by way of self-defense.

I'll take that as a concession that following someone is not justification for assault.

I don't think he's saying Buffy is better than The Wire, just that lots of people have written off shows like Buffy without ever having seen an episode.

you know that's not true.

Well I applaud your effort at making a well-reasoned counter-claim based on the facts of the case.

Well I'm glad you don't have trouble asking for help when you need it. The woman in the analogy left her apartment at a late hour. This decision ultimately lead to her rape. Leaving your apartment late at night isn't illegal (just like following a stranger), but in both scenarios they initiated a string of events that wound up with someone being hurt. These things are irrelevant because rape or assault is not justified because one chose to leave their apartment or follow someone.

What is important is determining how the situation became violent and who threw the first punch. Do you know why? Because while following someone isn't inherently illegal, assaulting someone is. Martin's body showed no sign of physical assault (prior of course to the gunshot wound). Add that to the witness testimony supporting George Zimmerman's account of the events and the fact that the location of the fight (being back towards Zimmerman's car) suggests that Zimmerman was retreating and Trayvon was the aggressor, and it seems like a pretty open and shut case of self-defense.

A woman decides to go out for a late night snack and gets raped returning from McDonalds. Her completely legal (while possibly not well reasoned) decision to leave her apartment is what initiated that chain of events. It's her fault for being raped, right?

Who initiated the string of events that eventually lead to Martin being shot is irrelevant. The facts of the case suggest that Trayvon Martin was the one who escalated the situation from Zimmerman simply following him to assault. Zimmerman's the one with the cuts and bruises, and he's the one witnesses identified as the individual being pummeled on the grass. Following someone is not a crime. Furthermore, as head of the neighborhood watch, a strong argument can be made that Zimmerman was following Martin with good intentions (not to rob or assault him). Even if Trayvon was frightened by the stranger following him that doesn't give him the right to assault him. Zimmerman was attacked and he responded with lethal force, which is completely legal in the state of Florida. Full stop.

The person on the line said "we don't need you to do that", at most it was advice, not an order; and correct me if I'm wrong, but a 911 operator isn't law enforcement.

Also, Zimmerman was neighborhood watch. Identifying suspicious individuals you're unfamiliar with in your neighborhood is what neighborhood watch does. Following him wasn't a crime, and by all accounts Martin is the one who turned the confrontation physical.

Supernatural moved to Wednesdays. by BDog23in Supernatural

[–]jdrama83 1 point2 points ago

It really depends on the circumstances. Stuff like ratings, new shows, crew enthusiasm... The last two seasons havent been great, but the ratings have been good enough to warrant an 8th season, and they're bringing back a showrunner with a solid trackrecord. If I had to guess i'd say the network suits made this move with cautious optimism.

"By conservative estimates, a staggering 140 million [Muslims] ... hate everything you stand for and will never coexist with you, unless you submit [to Islam]." The word jihad has multiple meanings and uses within Islam, while the internal struggle to better oneself is not incorrect, there's also the struggle to establish a global Islamic caliphate. Ignoring the dozens of offensive battles that Muhammad fought as a religious warlord gives the word a deceptively innocuous meaning.
