I am a racist by barrykayin Africa

[–]jansuza 2 points3 points ago

I agree that the article isn't very well written. Everybody knows that these things are happening, and you won't struggle to find examples, but I think this article is somewhat inflammatory for a news site.

It sounds like an email that one of my more right-wing friends would send me after having a bad day at the office, and even though I've been through similar things since the end of apartheid, I don't think it's helping anybody other than the smug bigots who love to talk about how SA is going to hell in a handbasket.

That being said, I have been called rascist to my face and behind my back for disciplining staff, and it's the most infuriating thing, as any sort of angered response only serves to make the accuser feel more justified in saying it!

Won a game without even taking a turn Yesterday, what are your "What the hell just happened?" stories? by Slythisin Warhammer

[–]jansuza 1 point2 points ago

With the previous DE and Necron codices, I managed to play a similar game in a 750 point tournament.

The necron guy deploys two squads of warriors out in the open and kinda clumped, and an immortal squad with his lord quite far forward.

I deploy my wyches with archon across from his immortals, and have a ravager with each. I get first turn and my wyches get 12'' assault as their drugs, meaning that they fly directly at towards the immortals and disembark.

My ravagers each shoot 3 S7 AP2 blast templates at the warriors, and proceed to knock down all except 3 out of 20. My wyches and archon then proceed to charge his big immortal squad with lord and slaughter them all.

My opponent's turn, he had to pass 8 out of 11 well be backs which he didn't, and the necrons consequently phase out before having a turn!

If they can survive the absolute scariness that is SA's bowling lineup in the next couple of months, I'll give it to them. In my mind, you can't say you're the best until you've played Oz and SA yet.

Victor Matfield considering return to captain South Africa by kraftymilesin rugbyunion

[–]jansuza 4 points5 points ago*

I must say I don't know if I would like to see him back as captain. He's been an amazing contributor to SA's success in the past, but are we really struggling so much to find a quality lock replacement?

On the other hand, some experience would probably be handy in the current line-up, and it would seem as if we are struggling a bit with injuries of late.

And on a completely unrelated topic, Victor Matfield must please refrain from writing. His autobiography was probably the most boring book I've ever read, which is funny as he was there for so many amazing/interesting times.

When I was on a site-inspection tour once, my boss had to fly home for an emergency meeting, and instead of getting a rental car for me, he said it was fine if I used his Mitsubishi Colt (massive pickup truck).

I was seriously nervous about driving it, as there are 2nd World War battleships with smaller turning arcs than this thing. Turns out my fears were justified when I tried to turn out of an extremely narrow parking space and scraped the front left bodywork. I got out, crapped myself, then wiped off as much damage as I could, and re-attached the mudguard that had come loose.

When my boss got back, I was dreading having to tell him about it, as he wasn't much of an understanding guy, and he had a massive temper. As I was contemplating just biting the bullet and telling him, he turns a corner too slow and scrapes the EXACT same spot on the car. Literally the EXACT same place. I just stood there gaping.

We got out the car and assessed the damage, and I still remember him saying something about how he didn't think it had done that much damage. I even impressed him by knowing EXACTLY how to fix the mudguard.

I still laugh to myself when I think of that! What are the odds?

Hansie was surprisingly good. It's about the old SA captain Hansie Cronjè, and his rise through cricket, as well as the terrible time he had to endure during the matchfixing scandal and subsequent trials.

Oh yes! I keep forgetting that wolves don't really have veteran sergeants.

Well then, that's a pretty decent list right there.

I would sacrifice a couple of models from the big grey hunters packs to give them a powerfist per squad. 9 models with a single melta gun doesn't exactly do much damage to most things, and you'll lose the entire squad to big things in cc without a bit of help.

Other than that, it's a fairly solid build, but not on the extremely competitive side, which I suppose was the plan.

Have fun and good luck!

[40K] 1000pts IG Army List (C&C needed) by kiefer13in Warhammer

[–]jansuza 4 points5 points ago

Not bad for 1000 points. It has 5 tanks with many guns. It sums up what's good about IG.

You might have a bit of trouble with anti tank but not seriously so.

The only problem is the command squad without a tank. If you're going to go more than 40% mech, I reckon you have to go 100% mech. There will be many guns in your opponent's army that would've been useless, but are now able to shoot at the command squad.

DE army questions by Violentlambin Warhammer

[–]jansuza 0 points1 point ago

Nothing wrong with mixing warriors and wyches. They synergize pretty well, though I would pay heed to IIIIZetsuIIII's point about pain tokens. Wyches are much less versatile than the previous edition, and really do need the token to be as effective as they should be. You can also upgrade the haemonculus to add a bit of cc to the squad if you like.

How popular is cricket in NON-SOUTH-ASIAN countries ? by shawshankliferin Cricket

[–]jansuza 0 points1 point ago

Thanks! Don't get me wrong, I think our cricket is amazing. Our current bowling attack is absolutely brilliant, with world-class bowlers being left out of the selection as there's just so much competetion, reminiscent of the great west-indies side of the 90's, an our batting isn't half bad either.

I think all South-Afrians can't wait for the series vs England, as if it goes well, it will take us to number one shortly!

Beginner Chaos List by chaplain_iktinosin Warhammer

[–]jansuza 0 points1 point ago

Remember that these forums are both 40K and fantasy, but I'll assume with a name like chaplain_iktinos you're talking about 40K.

I've recently started a chaos army as my 4th so I've been giving it a lot of thought. Khorne is fortunately still quite good, and I would take some of the below as a starting 1000 points:

HQ: Either A winged Daemon Prince with lash, as the utility in small point games makes quite a difference), or good ol' Kharn. He's still a cc monster, and quite handy as anti-tank too!

Troops: 2 squads of 8 berzerkers with a hidden powerfist, in rhinos.

After that, you've got to have a look at what the army is lacking, which is most definately firepower/anti-tank. Things that would be useful here are:

*a bunch of oblits. They're always useful!

*defiler. It's got some CC ability as well so might go with a khorne theme a bit better

*squad of chaos marines with las-cannon to hold the home objective and take pot-shots.

*deepstriking terminators with combi-meltas and a PF or two.

It's about what you think suits your style really. In 1000 points, two squads of berzerkers are already quite formidable, so you can't go too far wrong with the rest!

How popular is cricket in NON-SOUTH-ASIAN countries ? by shawshankliferin Cricket

[–]jansuza 1 point2 points ago

In South Africa, the vast majority of people are only really interested in soccer. Cricket fans probably make up around (just guessing here) 10 percent of the population, if that.

Having said that, due to all of the stadiums being quite well situated, and the fact that it's pretty cheap to go and watch a game, you'll find that international games are very well attended and more often than not, sold out.

Domestic games are a different story, and the turnouts aren't always that good, though T20's seem to be taking off a bit more. The stadiums are normally at about 30-40% capacity.

It's a pity that in the country that's constantly skirting world number 1 rankings in both rugby and cricket, most of SA only cares about soccer, which we're actually quite crap at (87th in the world or something), but the people want what the people want, and I think the small but determined minority in SA will always keep cricket and rugby to a high standard.

TL:DR Many South Africans are fanatic about cricket, but still make up the minority.

First tournament this Saturday... by Spamiclesin Warhammer

[–]jansuza 2 points3 points ago

That's a near perfect summary of what to look out for in a tournament. A couple of things I would've tweaked slightly, but that just comes down to personal experiences and local metagame.

I've recently come to wonder at just how ridiculous 40K has become in tournament play. Even though there is a near-infinite selection of armies with choices, the selection of armies that will do well are limited to the above. Every now and then an army out of the ordinary will do well, but it's far too seldom for my liking.
