I'd like to see how Amaze or PPG would handle these files. Generally they show the least artifacting and take sharpening really well.

making 3d walk around images, how to? by Angry__Jonnyin photography

Well, technically any lens is good, but wide angle just makes it loads easier as there's less images to align & stitch.

Picture is taken with my trusty old D200.

Active subwoofer, 55€ (the upper one in the pic, element is Peerless XLS-10 and the amp is Hypex HS-200) by jannnein ThriftStoreHauls

Oh it's DIY, quite well built though. Sounds better than my old sub (the lower one in the pic) because the lowpass filter is steeper in the Hypex.

That works too, I have used a hat when the lightning was close enough to cause overexposure.

Photoshop can do alignment too when loading the images into stack. Don't know how well it works with star images, but there's freeware called DeepSkyStacker that'll do the job if Photoshop can't.

Strange Color Phenomenon by TheBlackThronein photography

[–]jannne 0 points1 point ago

Your blues are out of gamut in the camera JPEG and the brightest LED is actually clipped in the raw file as you can see in this screen shot of Rawdigger showing the raw blue channel.

The thing with out-of-gamut blue is that it turns usually pink or magenta, like in your JPEG file it has done. Lightroom simply applies less contrast/saturation or less saturated colour profile to the file than your camera does, keeping the colours inside the gamut.

The nice thing with raw files is that you can choose how it's rendered, here's two images: one showing the pink and one showing the real colours of the LEDs. (Imgur killed the image quality, sorry.)

I want to do a long-exposure photo of the milky way this summer. are there any tricks I have to do in post-production to make it even more amazing?

Stack images to reduce noise, the more you stack the less noise you should have. After stacking, apply buttload of contrast to bring out the Milky Way's structure.

in lightning photography, how can I protect myself (and the camera!) and know when I had enough?

One tip I've heard of (and luckily never had to use in practice) is to get the fuck down when you feel static electricity in your hair. Lightning leader is developing into you. Plastic bag should be enough for the camera.

also, what settings should I use? should I just set a long-ish (2-3 seconds) exposure and then wait for the lightning? or should I just take loads of photos and hope to get one with the lightning?

If shooting Canon, you can just let magic Lantern let do the shooting for you. There are lightning triggers for all cameras, prices starting from approx 60€ or so.

What are some things that are essential to carry in your camera bag and why? And what are some non photography related items you always carry in your camera bag? by REDruss_in photography

Well, put an eyepiece behind your lens and you have a telescope, magnification is the lens focal length divided by eyepiece focal length (300mm/8mm in my case). Adapter can be made from cheap extension tubes and a lens rear cap with a hole in it. Image will be upside down though, unless one is using something to rectify it, like an erecting eyepiece.

I actually compared my 100-300mm f4 Sigma to 2k€ Swarovski and the Sigma had generally better image quality, even with a cheap Celestron eyepiece and sloppily aligned eyepiece adapter.

What filters/techniques you cannot replicate digitally? by MyLastNameIsHOin photography

[–]jannne 2 points3 points ago

I have heard of an technique to combine images to reproduce the effect of a long time exposure but I doubt it is possible to create a waterfall like this one here in post processing.

Stack a bunch of images and average them.
