3 countries have 40% of the World's population - Russia, China, and India.

Not sure why you have included Russia with China and India. Russia has a population of < 150m.

I just cancelled my free trial of seo moz pro... I guess I wasn't using it to it's maximum potential, but it just didn't seem that amazing to me. What's so amazing about it?

"Barely the essentials to survive".... are you fucking serious? Do any of the rioters look malnourished to you? How many bakeries do you see being looted?

Go to Asia and spend some time in a slum if you want to see people who are really doing it tough. The 'poor' in the West are afforded opportunities that most people in the third world couldn't dream of.

The value of a thing is what you pay for it. In the case of free, nothing.

Really? So all social services are valueless to those who don't pay tax?

Yeah Newtown is nice but just too much of a bitch to get to on a regular basis. I humbly suggest The Eastern (Bondi Junction) or the Sheaf (Double Bay).

No one can explain why, despite the debt crisis and the battles on Capitol Hill, U.S. Treasury yield interest rates keep dropping. by tcd004in Economics

Maybe the Fed (directly or otherwise) is creating money to buy up the Treasuries.

That would explain the low rates coupled with the continuing devaluation of the dollar.

Um yeah, it actually does work in Europe. See Germany, Scandinavia, France, etc.

The ones that are really fucked - Spain, Greece, Portugal, Italy, etc - have heaps of public and private debt, tax collection issues, corruption, oppressive government regulations (especially in regards to starting a new business) and so on.

It's probably a moot point anyway, most people in America (and the rest of the 'west') are too fat, stupid and lazy to really give a fuck. As long as the poor and middle classes are pacified (i.e. food in your belly and there's something good on tv) they will continue to get sodomised by a subset of the wealthy.

Also, doesn't help much that the imbeciles on r/economics think that a 'free market' will magically solve all of their problems.

From a non American:

  1. Tax increases for the wealthy, tax cuts for the middle and lower classes.

  2. Tax cuts for small business.

  3. A cultural shift away from the use of credit and living above ones means.

  4. Large scale government micro-loans/grants for entrepreneurs.

  5. Increase minimum wage.

  6. Public works projects.

  7. Cut military spending.

  8. Remove vested interests from positions of government.

  9. Improve safety net. Socialized healthcare, provide breakfast/lunch at school, etc. Stuff that basically ensures that working and middle class people can save money and/or start a business of their own without worrying about how they'll feed their family if it doesn't work out or a sudden medical issue arises.

  10. A tax on (or a cultural shift away from, at least) income derived from speculation. Incentives for people who actually produce (or want to try to produce) useful goods and services.

For every dollar spent on family planning, four dollars are saved, which actually promotes fiscal responsibility. So defunding Planned Parent is really increasing the deficit. Kafkaesque. by dorothydifferentin politics

It's a fucked up situation to be sure, but how does this qualify as 'Kafkaesque'? Reminds me of that Breaking Bad episode where Jesse uses the term just to sound cool.
