I read a while ago that putting superlatives (the most incredible, most valuable this or that) in the meta description is a no-no. Is that your impression also? by k13in SEO

[–]inflagrante 1 point2 points ago

I usually try and put my target keyword in there once, since the search terms are presented in bold by google, and it helps stand out and affirmation that page content matches query. Otherwise it's all about good copy.

put whatever convinces people who have just done a google search to click on your page in there. Captain Fishkin was suggesting 'spiffiest' in the page title in a recent whiteboard Friday, so I think they're probably on the side of good converting copy rather than any rigid rules for your meta description... you need to know your market...

Now Accepting Members for Private SEO Community by zschuesslerin SEO

I'd be up for this, but I'm pretty heavily bound by the contract I'm under at the agency I work at, so couldn't really provide specific examples and techniques, just general insights. That said, I'm working on a few side projects (an ecommerce project in particular), that's in its infancy, so wouldn't mind documenting what I'm up to there....

Why social bookmarking traffic sucks. by mkhaytmanin SEO

it might be shitty for commerce conversion, but it's building brand awareness and getting you exposure...its value depends on whether you've spent any time building a strong brand or are just going after the fast buck...

Why can't I add meta-tags and titles to my google sites website? by auraslipin SEO

[–]inflagrante 2 points3 points ago

you just can't on those - they're heavily limited, and just not a good place to build a site that you're placing any commercial hopes on...

you've got a lot of ads before the fold, a pretty ridiculous amount of repetition of the phrase "skype alternatives" and "google talk" and no real value to the content of your site. +1s are going to make no difference to your ranking apart from making people in my circles see your site because it looks like I approve of it (which I don't)...

Avg Review Microdata - any way I can link it to a local places listing and get it to update itself? by inflagrantein SEO

[–]inflagrante[S] 0 points1 point ago

that's what this is - there are variations on rating microdata, the hreview aggregate is most suitable for these purposes, there are others but their purposes differ - ie individual product ratings, or movie reviews etc.

sorry, can't send you over examples, but there seems to be quite a good guide over here: https://seogadget.co.uk/using-hreview-microformat-on-your-review-page/ hope it helps! (use hreview-aggregate for businesses with local places reviews)

What is the best way to check SERP ranking? by mrhodesitin SEO

For depersonalisation, this method works well for me: http://www.whitefireseo.com/tools/turn-off-custom-search-permanently-with-google-chrome/280/

For SERPs results I use ranckchecker too.

Aspiring SEO/SEM Intern by M4tt1n4t0rin SEO

if you already have the position arranged, don't worry too much about the actual certification yet - just start using it if you aren't already - set up a blog and start tracking it, then head over here: http://www.google.com/analytics/iq.html and fill your boots. Set up goals, try some custom reports and get familiar with how the stats become actionable insight. When you can look at the analytics and make decisions about content and conversion techniques based on that, you'll be able to add a lot of value to any organisation.
