Just got my first "real" knife, wanting to keep a good edge on it, have a couple questions by lady_jayein knives

[–]infestdead 1 point2 points ago

You can pickup a Gatco Tri Stone or similar. Sharpen all your kitchen knives that you don't really care about a couple of times, read a few tutorial online and when you feel confident you are good to give your good knife a go. You might not give it a shaving edge the first time but you'll go there, just be patient.

You can always get some nanny system like Lansky and it's mostly good for pocket and small knives, but at one point you will definitely want to learn to sharpen free hand on a stone. Especially if you get a larger knife.

What's a good GPS unit? by bitcheslovemathin motorcycles

Also have in mind that zumos use lithium-ion batteries that when off the power would work for 2-3 hours tops with screen on. The 60csx for example uses 2xAA and lasts 20+hours so you can also take it with you. For my setup I use a RAM mount, a bit expensive but very strong and modular, 12V power socket, 12v-to-usb convertor, and mini usb cable. That way when it rains I just take the cable off and can go on for a long time without external power and can take the gps with me if needed. The 60csx is a bit slow in a city with lots of data on the map but on the road it's just fine. It also uses old fashioned buttons and not touch screen so for me it's much easier to operate with gloves on.

I love my garmin 60csx. Still lots of maps, latest city navigator US/EU no problem, all garmin maps that I've tried work. I don't like the newer 62st even though they "should" be better, mainly because the software is more "user friendly" and I miss some functionality from the old 60csx, also the screen is not very good in direct sunlight and the resolution sucks for such a new device. Etrex 30 is ok for the money, etrex 20 is even cheaper and there isn't much missing.

cat /dev/sda | grep a_file_that_isnt_there

or grep for content from the file from /dev/sda, if the file hasn't been rewritten there's a good chance you might salvage some of it :)
