It wasn't that bad. It was the very first time I had ever tried crossing into the states.

Quite honestly, I do not know how it got there...I had vacuumed the car thoroughly before leaving, and had only ever smoked 1 joint in the car prior to that trip.

Anyway, the main reason I got stopped was due to having a car full of stuff, like packed to the nuts. They figured I would try and stay in the USA ("Intent to Immigrate without proper documentation"). They hardly cared about the pot. They searched my entire car, searched me, finger printed me, and eventually sent me on my way. The hardest part of that was that I was going to meet my then girlfriend (now wife) for the first time and so I had to head back home after all that.

The biggest annoyance was sitting in the waiting room for about 2 hours while they went through everything, not knowing what was going on or what they were doing. Hours later, finally being able to get back to my car and use my phone to respond to my girls frantic texts.

Then the Canada border stopped me and fined me $1000 and wouldn't give me my car back until it was paid. Was a shitty night lol.

The only other time I had a problem at the border, the agents said my car smelled like pot. It didn't, but they wanted to power trip a little so I let them. They tested one of my fingers for THC with some little device.. it came up with a 0 (zero) reading and he asks.. "Are you sure you haven't been smoking?"... I'm gonna have to go with "no" at this point officer! Derp. They still let me through the border that day despite them being dicks -- because I was honest with them and not causing any problems.

A few times I was high while crossing, they could tell but they don't care. I'd just tell them the last time I smoked was a couple weeks ago. As long as you're honest that's what they want. They told me multiple times they just prefer the honesty. For a while I was dealing with pink eye so that was a good excuse, too. :)

The last thing I'll add is, they found resin on things I didn't even know had resin on them. It's not worth it to bring anything at all you might suspect was ever in contact with a controlled substance. When I finally moved to the USA I just threw it all out/gave some of it away/etc before leaving.
