I agree that abortion should remain legal, in the framework of Roe v Wade, and what we should be doing as a society is to provide better options.

What do you mean by "giving up"?

Suicide? Apathy?

I would suggest counseling, especially with a therapist trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques. At least check out Dr David Burns Feeling Good Handbook.

The problem a lot of us have is that we think about the world in unrealistic ways, and this often results in negative feelings about ourselves. However, unless you have a chemical imbalance, you can train your brain to alter your thought processes so you look at things more realistically. It may make you feel a little better!

My mother wasn't forced. She made what she feels is a bad decision under pressure.

Well, I don't think you're necessarily being fair. I developed my convictions surrounding abortion in a largely academic sense, having no real life experience with the issue. Once you experience things in real life, it is only natural to re-examine convictions and develop a more nuanced view of things. Experience tempers convictions.

Also, you are jumping to conclusions. I would never propose that abortion be made illegal. Instead, I think we should keep it legal and remove the need for abortions as much as possible through proper sex education, better access to contraceptives, and more accurate genetic screening.

I bear no ill will towards my parents. Rather, I feel empathy for my mother's regret.

I'm not religious at all.

What you are saying makes sense to me in a rational sense. I've always considered myself a rational person, and am not usually swayed by emotional arguments. Which is why my current feelings on the matter are unsettling.

Ultimately, no matter my personal feelings on the matter, I think abortion should remain legal. I think the legal framework established under Roe v Wade is a decent enough compromise.
