You can live most places in South or West San Jose and get to work in under 30 minutes. I live about as far south as San Jose goes before it gets rural and I commute on 85 to Los Gatos every day. 20 minute drive, 30 tops.

The Woods or Palmia can be quite nice, and if you are interested in a cheap place to stay while you get settle, I've found Colonial House Apartments (near Campbell) to be quite sufficient for that purpose.

I've heard that the trade-off for the high salaries is extremely poor health. Higher risk of the bends, osteo-necrosis, and the like. Not sure that would be worth it to me.

This happens to me all the time. Although, I rarely have to even "touch". Sometimes things fix themselves based on my proximity to the affected equipment.

I got a double payment once. They simply cancel the transaction and you get an overdraft if you can't cover it. You don't get a choice.
