Grosjean Barcelona 2011 epic move(commentator pretty funny also) by GuyNooshin formula1

[–]icantdrive75 1 point2 points ago

The guy knows his stuff. Watching practice this morning they were recapping one of the mid 90s races and he chimed in with "that's also the only race schumacher has ever won for mclaren." Apparently MSC had to borrow a helmet from mclaren for whatever reason. Buxton would have still been pretty young at that point, and to remember details like that takes a real passion for the sport.

You're right about that. I agree the law in most cases is ridiculous. But our disagreement is a philisophical one. I believe that just as you have a right to eject someone from your home for whatever reason, you have a right to eject someone from your plane or business or whatever. Freedom of association is a natural law that also happens to be included in the constitution. As we have a freedom to associate with whomever we choose, inherent in that is a freedom not to associate.

YOU'RE USELESS TO ME! I guess I'll just ask the one obvious question, how'd you get started? What kind of experience do teams look for, and how important is education?

The GC I worked at had dozens of cameras and the ability to go to anytime of day and easily watch any angle you wanted. I lost my phone a lot so I got to use it on a couple occasions. I'm sure they're not the same in every store, but the idea that they have none is insane. Every GC I've ever been to has been full of helpful people, if a little overpriced, so I can't imagine them flat out refusing to help. Where's the store? Nazi Germany?

I don't know why it wouldnt be. Grand-am is my second most favorite series. It's amazing racing. I guess one question would be, has your car started molding since the homestead race?

Right, the government can never censor you. A private business, however, can set their own standards, and set dress code however they feel.

I've taken 2v pushrod engines to over 10k on the dyno. I didn't say they anything bad about them. But physics is physics and a lighter valve is a lighter valve.

No, this season has been great! It's just that NASCAR is currently the only place to get my engine tech fix.

Ruckus-wise, no. But I still feel that having some engine development will make it more interesting for people like me, even if it is in the interest of efficiency.

I would watch this season. It's been spectacular entertainment. It doesnt give me an engineering boner anymore, but it is damned exciting. 5 races, and not only 5 different winners, but 5 different TEAMS have won so far.

As for engines, next year or 2014 they will be switching to turbo v6s and will be allowing engine development again.

Actually he's right, but I think for the wrong reasons. More valves per cylinder means each valve has less mass, so 4v engines can rev higher. A dual cam will also offer better valvetrain geometry and again, likely less mass, as it often eliminates things like rockers.

EDIT : just in case you wanted to sound smart some time, when referring to an OHC configuration the proper word is "finger followers", not rockers. I forget that some times.

The latest generations are almost always astounding in how they push the envelope of what we know and what we have to work with at the time, but they have no design regards to durability other than "make it through one race."

I'd hate to be that guy, but a few corrections. The fucking FIA over the last 5 years has unfortunately made this untrue. In 07, the engines were homologated and frozen. The only developments since then have been for the sake of durability. Engines must now make it through two or in some cases three grands prix before being rebuilt, or take a penalty. Engines may not even be dissassembled and must be inspected through the spark plug hole. Also, in the interest of durability, the rev limit has been deceased from 21k, to 18k, while if unregulated could be turning 25, or more. It is a far cry from its old self. Once a bastion of engineering creativity and cutting edge technology, it has become all but a spec series, where instead of innovation the reward goes to the man who finds the biggest holes in the rulebook.

[–]icantdrive75 0 points1 point ago

Last time you saw F1 was apparently the 80s. No turbos there. Maybe you're thinking of indy car? F1 cars are quite loud but still, NASCAR is the loudest racing I've been to. Top Fuel is louder, but brief. Once the field gets spread out in a NASCAR race the noise is constant and deafening. Without ear plugs you will be miserable, and find yourself praying for cautions. Turbos do help to quiet the cars down considerably though. With the advent of fuel injection, I'd say it's high time for turbos in NASCAR!

Automatic to a manuel? by Vindaverin Cartalk

[–]icantdrive75 0 points1 point ago

All the shift linkage to the gear lever. It's not RWD. I think that would be the complicated part.

Automatic to a manuel? by Vindaverin Cartalk

[–]icantdrive75 4 points5 points ago

No no. He's going to hire a migrant worker named Manuel to shift his automatic for him from the back seat with a bit of wood attached to the gear lever. That's why it's called "Manuel stick".

And yes, buy a different car. I know one guy who has done this, but he was able to machine any parts he needed along the way, and it was RWD which is several orders easier to mount in the car. It is not something for the casual or even experienced mechanic. Experts only.

If I were making a commercial for a third party, it would be something like the Pepsi challenge. A man stands at a table with a plate of spam, a plate of uncooked chicken, and a delicious looking steak. The man in the coat tells him he can have spam or chicken. When he asks about the steak the man will go on about how the steak is dangerous or crazy or would be throwing away your vote, and your choice is really only between the chicken and the spam.
