Yeah the first book is the worst, their real allure is the mysteries presented. Sookie is a Mary Sue fill-in-the-blank protagonist and pretty much every male interest is a tall-dark-and-handsome slate of fantasy ready to be indulged. The only thing that got me through them was how short they were, seriously chapter-book length, and the fact that I wanted to know more about the background lore. I remember loving book 7 and the neat vampire hotel. Other than that, they're kind of a blur.

The short stories are where Harris really stands out IMO, lemme see if I can find my favorite... Oh, Dracula Night. That one was funny and entertaining, maybe an hour read tops.

There's a ton of shit that happened in books 2-what are we on now about 5? Six? That's completely ignored in the show. The (sookie/eric book relationship spoilers)Book Spoiler would be pretty boring on-screen if you ask me.

I think the problem might lie in how much of a Mary Sue character Sookie is in the books. She's strong, independent, has a good head on her shoulders, and... well, fill in the blanks, because there's really not too much else that's actually set in stone for the reader. The show's writers seem to be interpreting her more of a damsel-in-distress than a gumshoe-in-all-the-wrong-places, because hell, it makes good television. Same reason Lala's still around. Great TV.

I think on some level he had to go there to see what the paper would say. Putting someone on the spot with a camera and an implied promise of youTube stardom is pretty brutal, sure, but if someone had stolen your work and profited from it, wouldn't some part of you want to confront them? There are egos on both sides of this thing. A letter would have been much cleaner, but almost certainly less satisfying.
