By Request: I design frozen dinners, AMA by RyRyFoodSciGuyin IAmA

[–]haneliz 0 points1 point ago

I generally have this problem as well (I'm currently restricting my calorie intake to lose quite a bit of weight...). If I eat a frozen meal (usually a Lean Cuisine or an Amy's frozen meal) I'll eat something low-calorie with it as well, but will fill me up. In fact, I just finished eating my lunch of an Amy's frozen stir fry thingy and some carrots and hummus :) For dinners I'll have some sort of frozen pasta dish and a salad. The extra side really helps to fill you up but is low in calories, too.

I have never used marijuana. As a result, all I know is based on the seemingly constant praise and justification it receives on the internet. Reddit, what are your worst experiences with the drug and why is it illegal? by MagikalGiantin AskReddit

The first time I was ever high I was in Amsterdam. I didn't smoke the weed because I have no desire at all to inhale hot burning air, but I figured, "what the hell, how often are you in Amsterdam?" so I bought a chocolate weed muffin at a coffee shop while the other girls I was with split a blunt. I ate half the muffin (per the instructions of the nice chick who sold it to me- because I was a marijuana virgin). I waited about an hour, didn't feel anything, and we walked back to our hotel room. There, it suddenly hit me and I started cracking up for no reason. But then I sat there for a bit and said nothing at all because my mind was racing so much that I couldn't even speak without worrying it'd come out all wrong. So I excused myself from hanging out and asked one of the girls to walk me to my room in case I got lost (I seriously couldn't focus long enough to be sure I knew where I was going). I skyped wit my girlfriend, hoping it would chill me out some. It didn't. My mind kept racing- it wasn't enjoyable at all. So I went to bed high, woke up and still was high a little bit.

I (stupidly) brought the other half home with me on the plane back to the US and split it with my girlfriend (I figured I had just eaten too much and this would give me a better effect with half the amount I had before). It was pretty much the same feeling and I didn't like it. I haven't been high since :P

Resbian must be Scooby Doo's sexual orientation.

Which big difference between the USA and Europe is the most difficult to understand or accept for you ? by yeahitwasmein AskReddit

[–]haneliz 1 point2 points ago

Dunno about that. I never felt comfortable when I was in school/public/whatever and was asked which church I went to. I'd always say "Oh, I don't go to church..." and I'd get the most awkward stares, be asked why, and always get invitations to attend with them.

I was also asked to raise my hand once while in a Spanish class to proclaim my acceptance of Jesus as my savior. And I went to public school.

It really depends where you are...I went to elementary/middle/high school in a very conservative, Christian, middle-class small town in Ohio.

Question about C25K by rawrificationsin C25K

[–]haneliz 1 point2 points ago

That's terrible :( I'm sorry to hear! But the elliptical is definitely a good alternative.

Yeah, I would definitely increase the intensity and maybe try to maintain a steady increased speed as well?

I stopped C25K at W3D1 but I still keep on walking by Sir_Jollyin C25K

[–]haneliz 2 points3 points ago

Awesome! Definitely keep at it.

Would you consider continuing to repeat W1D1 so you can maintain some of the leg muscle you built getting to W3?

Question about C25K by rawrificationsin C25K

[–]haneliz 1 point2 points ago

I don't see why you couldn't use another machine. I would suggest maybe increasing the intensity of the elliptical during times you would be running/jogging in C25k, and maybe going slightly faster? It's not really the same as C25K, as running and using the elliptical really are different, but it is relatively similar.

Have you tried running using an ankle brace or anything before?

Hah, I have a card from my internship from all of the employees that I got on my last day. The security guard wrote

You must not read very much social science research...

Many studies, especially qualitative studies, look at correlative factors because it is often impossible (or highly unlikely) to prove causation because it is difficult to control for everything. Many studies do attempt to find causal factors, but they're often more expensive, more time consuming, etc. A lot of correlational research is also pilot research used to help determine the direction of future research on a particular topic.

Objectivity in the field of psychology is still important right? Cause during class today I was the only one to argue for this... by IThinkitsFunnyin psychology

[–]haneliz -1 points0 points ago

Objectivity and the importance of research and science within the field of psychology is crucial, but it is also equally crucial to remember that a ton of psychology research is performed in a "vacuum" of sorts, and applying it in the real world is often much more different.

Additionally, if people didn't get upset or offended about things, then we wouldn't feel passionate enough to deal with them. I think it is important to have emotion in our work, else we'd be totally removed from everything (not a good sign as a practitioner...) and not take reality into account.

Hey AL'ers! What do you think of lip piercings? by GodzillaInsurancein actuallesbians

[–]haneliz 0 points1 point ago

She isn't gauging huge, though...just to the point where they should shrink back down if she takes them out. (Around a 2g or maybe even a 0g). She has told me before she wanted her lip pierced, and had even made tentative plans to do so, but she has hesitations because a lip is less easy to cover up than ears (if they somehow don't shrink all the way back), and her parents don't care about her ears but they might stop paying for her college education if she starts piercing her face... :P So, sad face for me. :(

I loooooove lip piercings. Looks good on you!

I've been trying to get my girlfriend to get her lip pierced for ages, but she is worried about the scarring. :( That, and her parents would probably disown her. She's gauging her ears now, though, which looks pretty hott. :)

A month ago a suicidal Redditor left his final note on MensRights, only to be egged on by members of SRS. A wrongful death suit is being filed and Reddit will be subpoened for their identities. Where to from here for SRS-affiliated subreddits? by HeinigerNZin AskReddit

shrugs I support equal rights and I'm a feminist. Just had a discussion in class today about the importance of recognizing Domestic Violence among men and how sad it is that there are very few resources for men in these situations. You sure must meet shitty feminists.

Hahahaha...good question.

They may allow queer/questioning girls, though. Hmm....

[–]haneliz 0 points1 point ago

Thanks!! :) If you ever have any questions or anything, do let me know. This is actually quite a common story from what I have read. It does work out quite a bit...sometimes it doesn't. But it doesn't hurt to try.

I wish you luck and oodles of happiness :)

I'd just let her know how much you like her, and how much you really value your relationship with her. Encourage her to be open with how she feels about you...maybe ask her about it?

Thanks :) I often do choose "other," and if other isn't available, I generally pick "bisexual." But if Queer were available, I'd pick that one first. :) Sexuality is a weird weird thing.

[–]haneliz 1 point2 points ago

Yep!

We had been flirty back and forth just like you and your friend are. I would say things like "I'll never kiss a girl." We'd hold hands on long bus rides, stay hours after school talking to each other, talked online super late into the night about various things. Then on New Years Eve 2008 she hopped on me and started trying to get me to kiss her. :P I kept saying no, and I didn't want it to ruin our friendship, etc., but she was persistent and I was laughing and being silly. Then we made out for about 4 hours after that...hahaha.

About 6 months following that we fooled around a TON. I justified it to myself as a friends with benefits sort of thing...but I had real feelings for her, but I was too afraid to say anything (keep in mind she is in a similar place in her sexuality as I am, always having identified as straight). Finally we had a talk late one night about what we "were" and we decided we were in a relationship. And we have been for about 2 months short of 4 years.

She still identifies as straight and says she would never date another girl. I think I am a little less "straight" and my closest "label" would probably be queer I think. I don't think I'd date another girl, but I'm not going to say never. I am attracted to more masculine/boyish women on occasion, but I have never been attracted to a feminine woman.
