People always lament bad film adaptations of good books. But what are some examples of superior cinematic adaptations? by CheatasaurusRexin literature

[–]gussets 0 points1 point ago

Both versions of Never Let Me Go are great, but the film is one of my top 5, while the book doesn't rank in any personal 'best of' lists. It's such a terrifically sad story, and the movie does it justice with beautiful cinematography and near perfect acting.

Is anyone else really enjoying the LA Complex? by SpaceManAndyin television

[–]gussets 0 points1 point ago

I was surprised how much I enjoyed this show, because it's pretty far from what I'd normally watch. Tariq's storyline is by far my favorite.. can't wait to see where it goes next season.

Geologist! During field season, I work for four weeks and am off for two. A few people at my company opted to take extended leaves this winter too, for traveling.

A week before my period hits, I'm always insatiable. If you keep track you could see if your appetite is related.

Back to work as a geologist in southern Labrador. Daily long hikes, rocks, and black flies.... can't wait!

I've lost almost 50 pounds over the last year, but I've plateaued... need some advice. by davidrobotsin loseit

[–]gussets 2 points3 points ago

I have no advice, I just wanted to say that being one of the few fatties at Coachella this year is a huge motivator for me. Goal: beach body for Coachella 2013.

Also, congrats! You look great!

What is your "never again" brand, item, store, or restaurant ? by radbrad7in AskReddit

Same thing here at the same time. First my fan went in under a year, then a few months later the new fan AND the motherboard pooped out. The battery was always a piece of shit. Stupid HP.

I'm SO SICK of screwing up and binging! Please help me Reddit, what can I eat to completely stop binging! Whenever I resort to many healthy foods it never seems to stop them. by bradman20in loseit

[–]gussets 2 points3 points ago

A few weeks ago I had a ridiculous 3 day binge. I snowballed into a calorie machine and decided that since I was already cheating, I may as well eat ALL the bad foods. My binging was completely mechanical and habitual; the satisfaction I got only lasted as long as I was shoveling food in my face. Us bottomless pits could binge eat forever- you just have to not eat. It sounds stupid, but it's totally mind over matter. Eat within your daily calorie allotment. Don't be afraid of feeling hungry. A delicious, low calorie, filling food that stops cravings does not exist. If it did, you would probably binge on it.

I printed out a monthly calendar, and now my goal is to not break the chain. I want to have as many good days in a row as possible. It's also handy for jotting down your progress in the gym. I also track with LoseIt, but bad days are forgotten so easily there. With the calendar, I can quickly see how many days I've been successful.

Good luck :)

Sailing stones... I had never heard of this phenomenon before! by quickquackin geology

My class went to the Racetrack Playa during a field school, and it was awesome. It actually took some searching to find stones with trails, and the trails were generally quite faint.

Thrift stores that buy clothes? by Cuppiecakesin halifax

[–]gussets 3 points4 points ago

If you google "Halifax consignment shops" you'll be able to find a few (off the top of my head, Put Me On Clothing and Formerly Yours Boutique). Call ahead. Basically they'll choose what they want to sell, and when/if it does sell, you get a percentage of the money. I've never done it myself.

I once gave my mom a cd, and she told me all the songs sounded the same. I then found that her cd player was on track repeat. What are your parents' technology fails? by pseudosarain AskReddit

[–]gussets 0 points1 point ago

For some reason, before closing an internet browser, my mother thought she needed to click "back" until she returned to the homepage. Luckily she only searches for recipes and obituaries, so it wasn't that much of a time-waster.

Similarly, my mom keeps her laptop on this thick glass baking tray to protect the kitchen table from her acer.

Hiking With Bears by sunflowerladyin Outdoors

Haha I relate to this- I remember once scrambling to get the plastic-wrapped bear spray out of the bottom of my backpack, pulling the safety tab, and having the bear be long gone.

Man, sounds much better than my combo of tuna, tzatziki, and balsamic vinegar today. Flavor combination fail.

Coachella Sickness by ecb29in Coachella

[–]gussets 1 point2 points ago

Ugh... Since Monday I haven't been able to stray too far from a washroom, and on Tuesday I was puking my guts out. Along with the sore throat, full-body aches, and absent appetite. But if it's the price I have to pay for Coachella, it's totally worth it!

SBTRKT's conflict with GY!BE and Miike Snow and Bon Iver (although minor) still has me scratching my head. If only it was possible to be in 4 places at once :/ Still hoping they tweak the schedule for weekend 2.
