Weapons Training? by doodleflipin martialarts

[–]ghostbusters42 0 points1 point ago

Well I don't know where you live, but I recommend you check out classes at the Higgins Armory Museum in Worcester MA. They are incredibly dedicated and their teachers are excellent. I took two 4 session classes there but unfortunately I don't live close enough to participate in regular classes. They do several different kinds of sword fighting from across history. Here's the link, hope it's helpful. Good luck in your search. http://www.higgins.org/academy-sword

I actually don't think the lightning is very common. I think it's still very specialized, because when Mako gets out of the job at the factory he says he "made some good money." I take this to mean that its a very specialized skill so he got paid extra for it because not many people can do it. Might be wrong of course.

Fun set of intermediate German longsword techniques by ashultzin martialarts

[–]ghostbusters42 0 points1 point ago

Love Talhoffer. Also in regards to dropping the weapon, my sword teacher always had us train with a dagger for German Longsword because he said that most knights would have a rondel dagger with them for close quarter combat. He also said that a lot of knights would just drop their sword and go immediately to their dagger when they fought another knight on foot.

What are the best RPG's story-wise? by Sketcheryin rpg_gamers

I'm sure that this has come up before, but I say the Tales series. They have fantastic characters that really grow and develop.

Jaime in the third book. Essentially everything he does.

How did people who first read the books picture the characters? by DarkNationin gameofthrones

[–]ghostbusters42 2 points3 points ago

Jaime really does look exactly like I always pictured him, as does Barristan Selmy. The only significant difference I found was with the characters that they aged like Ned and Robert since in the books they're in their thirties.

What Books Make You Cringe To Remember? by suhrobin literature

[–]ghostbusters42 21 points22 points ago

Eragon. And the sequel. And the sequel to that. Didn't read the last one.

I was a kid when I read them and I read the third for nostalgia so at the time I thought they were awesome, now I can see the extent to which Paolini ripped off like every other big fantasy series. Also his style of writing is essentially 400 pages of blandness and then one sentence of very intricate vocabulary to try and make up for it. My friend always quotes the "dolorous cacophony" line from the third one as proof of it. My apologies to any Inheritance fans out there if you disagree.

Why did they make Sirius Black look like a mad man in the PoA movie? by bellabobin harrypotter

I can understand why they would do it for dramatic effect. Also the best part of that movie was the fact that they gave him prison tats based on alchemical symbols.

I'm sorry I don't have a formal source, a professor told me that in a history course. If you can disprove it I retract the statement.

When Walt Disney wanted to secure the rights to Mary Poppins, he threatened to publicly out the author if she didn't give him the rights. Sorry if it's a repost, or if it ruined the movie for anyone.

My dad never really taught me things men should know. What are some life hacks that only a dad could teach? by Davidmoosein AskReddit

[–]ghostbusters42 1 point2 points ago

Never turn down free food.

Always remove your hat when you meet someone, when you walk into a formal building, and when in the presence of a lady.

Learn the value of silence, a man who listens before he speaks comes off as especially sagacious.

"This above all, to thine own self be true. And it must follow, as the night the day, thou can'st not then be false to any man."

Share with us what prompted you to take up Martial Arts? by Askurain martialarts

[–]ghostbusters42 0 points1 point ago

When I was 16 I had a recurring dream about being Batman in the old 90's Batman cartoon show. The villains all kicked my ass. I decided I wanted to learn how to handle myself, just in case. I'd always been interested but this kicked it off. I tried karate, but I had to quit after a complication arose. A few months later I started doing Historical Martial Arts. After seeing how the other guys in the class had a lot of experience with more commonplace martial arts, i decided to go back to karate. I've been taking it ever since. It's only been a year, but I'm really glad I did, my sensei's great and I love it. Also I want to study Historical Martial Arts more and I want to become a historian and specialize in the study of Arms and Armor, so I think that studying karate, and other styles later on, is probably in my best interest.

What are some of your worst mistakes, in your pokemon journeys? by Plastic_Trampin pokemon

Had a shiny Blaziken on Pokemon Emerald. Didn't realize it. Deleted the save file.
Also, back in Pokemon Red I guy I knew traded me a mew that he had gotten from a glitch. Thought it made the game too easy so I started a new game.
