It depends on the definition of soul. For the religious it's the invisible cloud that leaves the body at death. For a materialist it might be the sum of physical body entities that are augmented by information which get destroyed by the irreversible damage of death.

In either case, we don't have enough information at the present time to answer the question (of why we cannot resurrect a dead person).
