TROPHY CASE

The front door of Mission police station after tonights occupy march by alukimain bayarea

[–]foofy 2 points3 points ago

From the SFGate post:

"This just seems like they're frustrated with their impotency at this point," Tooker said. "It's like, 'Look at me, I'm still here, I'm still occupying.' "

Here's a standard response to use anytime somebody picks on differences between regions, cultures, or whatever: "Do you know who else wanted all people to be the same? HITLER." Works best if you flail your arms while you shout the last word.

I read the book without knowing anything about it or the author. It didn't make me sad and some of it seemed downright silly (spoiler alert)--like the part where they roast the newborn baby. I laughed. I honestly thought I was reading a bad book but then I was told the author is kind of a genius and something is terribly wrong with me if I found any part of the book something to laugh at. I guess I just went in with the wrong mindset.

Edit: I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the book, or that I'm emotionally vacant. There are lots of books that really got to me. There's something about the way I approached this book that tainted it. Kind of like when you go to see a bad horror movie knowing it's a bad horror movie. You look at it differently as if it's supposed to be funny. I think that's what I did.

My boss bought me new shoes because she could see my feet through the holes in the bottom (and the corresponding holes in my socks) of the ones I was wearing. I felt kind of bad. It's not that I'm incapable of taking care of myself, I'm just absent minded and have a hard time getting accustomed to new things. Since then I try to not look as scruffy so as not to inadvertently take advantage of someone's kindness.

This reminds me of the homeless guy who would use all the money he was given to buy lobster. You'd think being homeless would change your priorities, but maybe it's what kept him going.

I was having a bad night and let myself get a little too drunk and a little too emotional. At some point I sat down at the corner to collect myself. I was there for a good 10 minutes or so when some guy came up and tucked a five dollar bill in my hands. I jumped up and said something angry like "I don't need your money!" and stormed off. Afterward I felt bad. He was trying to help, five dollars is generous, and I did look like a homeless person with my beard and ratty hoodie.

So, don't feel too bad. You were trying to do a nice thing.

Yikes! I've been talking about it with them quite a bit. When they first quit they were kind of upset I didn't seem to care. How do I encourage them and let them know I'm proud without bringing it up?

When you relapsed, what helped you get back on board? What should my reaction be? If I'm too relaxed or nice about it, will they feel I didn't think their quitting was important? But if I get upset maybe they'll get pissed off and not try again out of spite. Or am I over-thinking this?

To be fair, it's fantasy. Fantasy can be whatever you (or the author) wants it to be. I still think Twilight is awful, though.

I know it's a big loss, but please do the Knights of New a favor: look at these kittens, calm the fuck down and lay off the Steve Jobs posts.
