Watch for the hack Mike Smith tries to take at Mike Richards after Pancakes scored the winner in OT last night. (1:10) by RheaGunzin nhl

[–]fishbert 0 points1 point ago

OMG! That's the worst thing that's ever happened on the ice ever! Nobody has done anything at all similar in the history of the game, and I am personally offended at how close he came to actually touching him! Poor Richards; I hope he's ok! Such a travesty! Smith = Hitler, rawr!

PHX GM Don Maloney: Rozsival has thigh bruise, no structural damage to knee. by wewdin hockey

[–]fishbert 0 points1 point ago

It was off-center because Rozsival saw him coming and was moving out of the way? Really?!
You must be watching a different hit if you see that.

Regardless, you can't go reaching for an off-center check with a leading knee and a chicken-wing up high. Both are illegal and should've been called ... but that's assuming the refs were calling penalties at all that night.

Disingenuous headline, OP. Maybe unintentional, but it's not really what Maloney said.

The article linked to says "knee/thigh".

Responding to a reporter asking where Rozsival's injury is, Maloney says, "it was his knee, it was his knee and his thigh."

And earlier in the Q&A Maloney gives an update on Rozsival saying, "he's on crutches, but it looks like it's nothing serious; looks like more of a bruise than any kind of structural damage to his knee."

I also believe that some of the Yotes players are going to be punished by the league for their comments, specifically the ones regarding the refs.

I'm surprised they haven't been already; usually that's a next-day sort of affair.

I hate that this is something that gets a bunch of 'atta boy's and 'good on ya's.

The norm should be shaming programs that don't, not congratulating programs that do.

I am not your monkey.

But I'll bet you get close to the right number if you add up the total number of elbowing penalties, and then subtract the number of elbowing suspensions.

Coyotes Fans not in Arizona by phoenixjjin Coyotes

I'm in Arizona now (came here for grad school, stayed for a job), but the Coyotes have been my team of choice since my high school days up in Montana.

I got my first piece of hockey merch today, and I am so excited. What was the first thing you ever bought to support your team? by Megerdoodlesin hockey

[–]fishbert 2 points3 points ago

Seeing Coyotes games is a 140 mile commute (each way) for me, so I don't get to as many as I'd like. But each season, I'll end up buying a few pucks at the game.

Really really really really really wish I could've picked up the limited edition puck for the home opener (Jets 1.0 vs Jets 2.0). I scoured the whole arena, but they were all sold out well before the game started.

Been thinking about a jersey, though. Got 2 for the local college club team, but none for the Coyotes. Problem is, I can't decide between Gordon or Vrbata (but with "Triangle Man" instead of his name).

I tried repeatedly to tell you it was kneeing, but not knee-on-knee... but you kept going on about "knee-on-knee" this and "knee-on-knee" that.

If anyone's been obsessed with "knee-on-knee" in all this, it's been you.

So everytime I pause the Brown hit when I hear the whistle (without looking) this is where it's at. by Cdf12345in hockey

[–]fishbert -4 points-3 points ago

I don't think it was the timing of the hit that is in question. It's the leading of the knee.

Pretty much.
The entire left half of Brown's body is illegal there; leading knee low and throwing out a chicken-wing high.

I agree with Kerry Fraser on this one; deserved a minor for kneeing.

Fraser: Judging the Brown knee and Doughty's outburst by fishbertin hockey

[–]fishbert[S] 0 points1 point ago

tl;dr version

Doughty knocking the net off -- no penalty
Smith without his glove -- blow play dead; player safety
Doughty OT interference -- good call
Doughty losing his shit -- good no-call, but Doughty's lucky
Hanzal 5-on-3 interference -- good call; bad player mistake
Hanzal stick to the face -- good no-call
Brown hitting Rozsival -- kneeing 2 min minor; bad sight lines for refs

Brown hit on Rozsival was clean by Chevellephreakin hockey

[–]fishbert -1 points0 points ago

He had his arms like that because he wanted to explode into the hit and follow through with his arms.

You're kidding, right?

45.1 Elbowing - Elbowing shall mean the use of an extended elbow in a manner that may or may not cause injury.

Brown has a BLOODY OBVIOUS extended elbow and hits Rozsival in the upper chest/shoulder with it That is precisely a violation!
(notice how Brown's shoulders are already behind Rozsival, yet Rozsival's torso hasn't turned at all from an off-center impact... what isn't behind Rozsival? oh, right, the chicken-wing.)

Rozsival kept turning in the other direction, and the result was Brown clipping him on the shoulder and thigh rather than hitting him dead center.

"Oh man, I'm not going to get a direct hit here... better stick my elbow out so I still clip him." WRONG!
