TROPHY CASE

Why, as a Lakers fan, I don't care who wins this OKC-LAL series by filipstinein nba

[–]filipstine[S] 1 point2 points ago

Uhm, like Facebook, Twitter, Blogger, etc. Reddit is a social media website. We post our opinions, and then we have the hivemind determine if that opinion is correct.

If you don't agree then you're in way over your head.

Kevin Durant clutch 3 pointer at end of Lakers-Thunder Game 4 - YouTube by nbafan4444in nba

Sorry Thunder fans, you're not going to beat the Spurs. That's probably the best team since the 2001 Lakers.

You can argue this is how he's been his entire career. Does anyone remember the two air balls he threw as potential game winners in his rookie season in the playoffs? He got a lot of scrutiny for that.

Will Pau Gasol be in the hall of fame? by GeeWhilikersin nba

Other than all the accomplishments listed, a lot of sports writers argue that Pau should have gotten the 2010 Finals MVP (i.e Bob Ryan, although he's a Boston homer).

Everyone I know here in Chicago that watches basketball are rooting for OKC. They're a very popular team outside of their city.

Not to mention that the NBA is a superstar league, and OKC has three highly marketable players that I would consider superstars at this moment.

I think they hand out shirts for the fans to wear. I've noticed some fans wearing their regular clothing underneath those shirts.

Yeah, if he's wondering why he was on the trading block, it's for lackluster performances in both this and last year's playoffs.

Maybe I'm being a little speculative, but Portland needs to invest in a better medical staff. Shit like this doesn't go under the rug when players and their agents decide which team they want to play for.

Other industries don't work like this;

What do you mean by "other industries"? The only thing comparable to the NBA would be the NFL and the MLB, both of which have restrictions on how players can enter the draft.

The thing is, these kids have been living with their parents their entire life, and a vast majority of them live under, at the very most, middle class household conditions. Kids need to grow up and mature to a point where they can understand how to responsibly handle the millions of dollars that is thrown at them. Going through a college lifestyle helps because it serves as a way to ween yourself away from your parents.

There are going to be kids who are incredibly mature for there age, but there are plenty of kids who aren't. Read the Grantland article on the divergent careers of Eddy Curry and Tyson Chandler. Even though Tyson was very mature for his age, and gave everything he got for his team, he never really performed that well until he went to New Orleans. When he was in the Bulls, he never had the experience that allowed him interact with his teammates and figure out his identity as a basketball player. Chicago drafted him thinking that he'd end up being a big man who can shoot jumpers like Kevin Garnett.

Then there's Eddy Curry, who threw money at anyone who was able to convince him that they were related to him.

I understand that there may be players players like Kobe, who have the work ethic to become the best at what they do despite their shortcomings, but a lot of people can't stomach two airballs in the last seconds of a playoff game.

If kids really need to start supporting their families, then they can go to the D-League or Europe, and develop their game there. The D-League has become a great resource for teams. The NBA needs to do what will make its teams more competitive.

When I meant afford, I meant that they couldn't keep them both under the salary cap. It would be incredibly ineffective to do so, too.

Assuming the Heat make it out of the east, what Western conference team has the best chance of beating Miami in the finals? by Dudefromevanstonin nba

[–]filipstine 5 points6 points ago

Spurs. While the starting five may not beat them, their bench will. Lebron, Wade, and Bosh can't play all 48 minutes.

Not to mention that they have an excellent transition game when Tony Parker has the ball, as well as a fantastic half court offense. Also, they have a much better coach.

If you want to see a clinic on post games, just watch Hakeem vids. I think he is the best low post scorer in NBA history.

Carmelo has taken more shots than points scored in this playoff series. by XelaKebertin nba

[–]filipstine 1 point2 points ago

But that's all Durant has, currently. When his jump shot is going, he's amazing, but when it isn't, then he's just standing around waiting to get open. It happened a lot in games 1 and 2, when he was shooting poorly. It happened a lot when OKC coughed up that lead to the Lakers. He needs to be able to score while 10 feet away with his back facing the basket. Until he becomes proficient at that, then I don't see them winning a title. I mean, they sure as hell can right now, but their lack of a post game and poor half court offense isn't one you would normally see in a championship team.

Carmelo has taken more shots than points scored in this playoff series. by XelaKebertin nba

[–]filipstine 24 points25 points ago

Barkley calls Melo the best scorer in the NBA, and I believe him. He still needs to deliver in the playoffs, but you can't put the Knicks woes on him.

Anyway, I blame the shitty fourth quarter on Mike Woodson, who said that he couldn't afford to take Melo out and give him a rest in the beginning of the fourth. You can't have him going against a Lebron James who has 7+ minutes of rest; that's just a terrible move, especially when Carmelo wasn't having a great game. Also, while Woodson helped revive the Knicks during the season, he could never get it together in the playoffs. All of his last few losses including those when he coached Atlanta were by double digits.
