Pay off student loan earlier or contribute more to IRA? by budgetchickin personalfinance

[–]ffn 1 point2 points ago

Yes, investments are voluntary, as is paying off extra principle on a student loan, just like the OP's situation.

I'm not saying anything about investments or debt being good or bad, only that they're different. You reiterated it yourself, you can't take money back out of debt payments. However, you can take money back out of an investment if really necessary.

The only thing I'm really trying to say is that with an investment, you have the option of taking your money out, which in itself is a valuable ability to have for some people. For you, the ability to do this might be worthless, but to some, this flexibility has value.

Paying off loans is a good idea, but it isn't the same as investing in something with the same yield. If you pay down the principle of a loan, and you suddenly need money, you cannot just take it back out of the loan, like you would be able to with a liquid investment.

Rich managers, poor clients: A devastating analysis of hedge-fund returns by Fittyakaferrariin Economics

Have you ever taken a loan? Used a credit card? Kept money in a bank account? Bought/received money from an insurance policy? All of these are parts of the "financial industry" and provide necessary and useful services.

I am a HR Manager - I want to help you get and prepare for interviews! AMA! by Miketheguyin IAmA

[–]ffn 0 points1 point ago

"mastered interpersonal linguistics" is equally as useless as "great communication skills" on your resume

Basically the idea is to make it so the first word gives a basic idea of the skill you have, or the work you do, and each following word gives more information. Each of these are examples of "communication skills" and does a better job of pointing out which "communication skills" you have.

  • "Discussed technical order specifications directly with institutional clients"

  • "Trained interns in the use of internal software"

  • "Led and worked in a team of four students to create presentation on X"

When there are 100 resumes to read, an HR guy isn't going to do any extra work interpreting your resume, so make it easy to skim. For jobs that receive many applications, I work on the assumption that each line of my resume is only going to be read once.

Is it too late to start studying for the level I CFA exam this june? Should I just wait and take the december test? by warmpillowin finance

[–]ffn 2 points3 points ago

Definitely possible. I started studying in August of last year for the December one right after graduating with a degree in management. I passed it, but just by the skin of my teeth.

Don't Walk Behind A Soldier Shooting A RPG by waverlyposterin video

Given the minuscule recoil that the shooter absorbs and basic physics, the back blast should have the same amount of force as the grenade itself (sans explosion).

Total shot in the dark, but maybe they'll exclude anybody that doesn't identify with their caste. Doesn't matter whether you're untouchable, or don't associate with any caste, you're not one of them, so you won't be included in their group.

Botting destroyed Diablo2 for me. What about You? by kotnascherin Diablo

[–]ffn 0 points1 point ago

It definitely added more variety into the game. In 1.09, the nova/orb/ts sorc and the guided arrow/jab zon dominated the game. 1.10 made it so druids, necros, paladins, and assassins became viable ranged casters in pvp, and it also made it so melee based assassins, barbs and paladins wouldn't get destroyed by casters.

[–]ffn -1 points0 points ago

I wonder how much more exciting would the Diablo 2 economy as a whole be if it wasn't for botters.

In what ways would the economy be more exciting without botters? The economy would be so much smaller and more difficult to trade in without people constantly adding more items into it.

Let's just say that you own a house, and you didn't like the style it had before, so you remodeled it. How would you like it, if someone who has no ownership of your property went ahead and vandalized your newly remodeled house because they liked the way it looked before?

There will be no street cars (Light rail?) at street level in our cities" - Many cities, this is actually true. Chicago, New York, and DC come to mind. However, there are cities where the light rail is at street level, such as San Fransisco and Salt Lake City. In cities that can afford it, they go that route, so per sweetmoses and awilder, I'm going with CORRECT.

Meanwhile, us Bostonians still ride on a streetcar system that was around WHEN THIS ARTICLE WAS WRITTEN.
