That was my thought. I'd like to see why these guys feel their product is worth 8 times as much.

Also, the Raspberry Pi team announced that the RPi would not run Ubuntu because Ubuntu no longer targets ARM. This product claims to run Ubuntu and be ARM, so, what's that all about?

Given that this links to a well-ranked comment on the current top AskReddit thread, I'm not sure this is really a valid candidate for /r/bestof.

"America's Idiot Rich - Some unknown but alarming number of ultra-rich Americans are now basically totally delusional and completely divorced from reality." by boboredin TrueReddit

[–]felixhandte 25 points26 points ago

Hold up:

That the ultra-wealthy are wealthy because they are smarter and work harder than everybody else, and that they are resented for their success.

That the ultra-wealthy in general, and finance industry executives in particular, are the victims of widespread prejudice akin to that faced by ethnic minorities.

Aren't the emboldened passages, which the article's author claims are delusional, exactly true? One need only take the most cursory look at /r/Politics to see that the ultra-wealthy are among most-hated groups in America.

With respect to the notion that the rich are the subject of prejudice, isn't that also absolutely true? While I don't think the rich are particularly suffering as a result of this prejudice, isn't it a totally prevalent stereotype that the rich are immoral and unethical and criminal and greedy and elitist and so on? Any equally vehement application of a set of stereotypes to a different subdivision of the population would be immediately identified as rank racism or sexism or whatever.

Indeed, this very article seeks to apply a description (stupidity, delusion) to a whole segment of the population! Go back to the article and substitute "billionaire" and "ultra-rich" with "female" and "black" and see how bad it sounds then.

The fact that wealth allows the very wealthy to largely be unaffected by these sorts of injustices does not alter the truth of their existence.

Well, the image projected by a lens on the film/sensor is also inverted, so they function identically in this regard.

Why should women have a post-birth option to opt out that men do not? by throwawaydownvotes11in AskReddit

[–]felixhandte 17 points18 points ago

If a couple opts to anonymously abandon their child at one such place, what are the ramifications of them suddenly not having a kid? They have a birth certificate, but no paperwork for where the child went. How would the government, say, distinguish such a couple from one that had committed infanticide?

I remember the same story. If I recall correctly, it turned to be a broken connection in the IDE cable to the hard drive. I guess IDE is a 16bit-wide interface, because the result there too was that every other character had one bit zeroed.

Hey /r/math I was wondering if you could help me with a grid problem. by v11chein math

[–]felixhandte 9 points10 points ago

As a CS person, my immediate thought was that this can be analogized to drawing lines on a screen. There are a number of line-drawing algorithms, the most common being Bresenham's Line Algorithm. This should solve your problem.

Pontifex/Solitaire Crypto Strength Help by MikeKazin crypto

[–]felixhandte 1 point2 points ago

My familiarity with Solitaire extends only so far as having read the description at the end of Cryptonomicon, so, I can't really speak to the soundness of the keystream generation algorithm. However, supposing that that algorithm is sound and generates suitably random characters, the key, a random ordering of 54 cards, has a space of 54!, which is 230843697339241380472092742683027581083278564571807941132288000000000000 (~2.3e71), which is approximately 214 bits.

So, in short, it has the potential to have comparable security to other modern stream ciphers, but given that it has not been analyzed to nearly the same extent as they have, it may have unknown weaknesses where other more popular choices are less likely to.

You may refer to the summary or the full text. Assuming the license's terms are not somehow unenforceable, use of works under this code does seem to be validly predicated on attribution of the original author.
