Tipping the dealers after a tournament by nickthenerdin poker

[–]ewingfield 0 points1 point ago

lol i actually won said tournament (and my buddy took 2nd) the last time I was in vegas! It was a nice little bankroll boost and a good excuse to drink free blue moons:)!!!! I tipped $10 and when you play a tourney like that, I felt like the dealers earned their tip. The dealers were incredibly nice and I felt like I probably could have given them more. When you are playing for a few hundred bucks and its not a very serious game... If they earn it, give it to them, if not, stick to your standard $5-$10

Lol, if you are wondering about the final hand.. I had AA, he had AA, and I hit spade flush. Dealers couldnt believe it and they flipped up the deck to look at all the cards. Unreal way to end a tourney :P We were happy though. Just goes to show you how soft that tourney is. It was all recreational... bar room holdem type of players in the tourney.

Any advice for playing in the WSOP for the first time? by daKEEBLERelfin poker

I've never played in a $1,500 WSOP event in Vegas, but I have played in a $1600 WSOP Circuit main event. The main thing to note about the $1500 events in vegas are that they start with smaller starting stacks and antes are introduced fairly early in the structure. If your best game is a deeper stacked structure, this may not be the tournament for you. There is a pretty good chance all of your chips will be in the middle within the first 4 hours.

There's a pretty good guide to these on Part Time Poker. Here is the link:

http://www.parttimepoker.com/wsop-1500-events-a-strategy-primer

I've actually read this article multiple times and it seems to be a good overview of what to expect. I'm probably going to go play in one of these events later on in the series. Good luck and make r/poker proud.

The first time i went to vegas, I compared the Bellagio to the Yankee Stadium of poker... I go in there on a Sunday morning and I see all these people in there that I've seen play on High Stakes Poker and I go down the venetian and as soon as you walk in, there is the poker room, and its like a church.. but filled with poker tables. It had an ambiance to it. The tourney I got in was a Friday tourney and it had a low turn out.. Because it was the day the WSOP just started. The low turn out was 189. Where I'm from, I'd love to have a 180 person $300ish tourney. We have 80-100 dollar tourneys with max 60 people showup. Also, since all the good players were in the WSOP playing, the Venetian was filled with the touristy type. I ended up sitting next to three guys from my state 2000 miles away... then seeing them at the local poker room a few months later.

I've played in the Venetian Deep Stack and everyone (including myself) absolutely loves the structure. It's weird because where I am from, older men are usually super tight aggressive, however, at the VDE, i had a 70+ year old guy 4 bet me all in with A9o... I don't think he did it out of ignorance... He was doing it to get me off my hand... I called with AK lol

We have this problem at my office too...

I fixed it though, I live a few blocks away and sometimes I'll just walk my dog near the building... Its crazy, geese aren't scared of people or cars... but as soon as you bring a cuddly boxer around that just wants to play... they fly away instantly.

Why would I pay for a service that makes me watch commercials after I've paid the fee to access the materials?

When they start putting commercials in netflix... ughhhhh:(

I am about to receive 60K from an insurance settlement. What's the best way to invest. by 60KCanadianin AskReddit

[–]ewingfield 0 points1 point ago

It really depends on your market where you live. Some people say that house prices will keep going down for the next 10 years because the housing market hasn't completely corrected itself. I don't know how accurate this is about the market in canada as I'm from USA.

I would think of your 60k as a big pie chart... and i'd break the pie into a few different parts..

Ultra aggressive investments (<5%) Think about something that could make you a lot of money if you invest now... but could also leave you with nothing. For example, I stake poker players from time to time. In some instances, its turned out really well.. Many times, I make nothing. My best ROI was when I staked a guy $200 and I made over $10,000 from the deal.

Sometimes, I even bet on sports, but I don't do it compulsively. For example, I've seen wagering lines that were blatantly wrong... and I took advantage of them and won. There is a right and wrong way to do this.

I'm not saying you should do this, I'm saying you think along these lines...

High volatility investments (<5%)

This could be something as simple as an online business. I have an online business and its netting me a nice return on my investment... I only have about $200 invested and I've made a few grand this year.

Normal investments (30%)

This can be stocks, bonds, precious metals etc etc.. and you can divide this portion of the money into its own pie chart

Long term investments (30%)

A house... perhaps you could even put the downpayment on a house, and rent it out... and slowly let the renters pay the note for you?

Retirement investments/Yourself

Have some money set aside that you will not touch until you retire. The different between this and the normal investments above is that the normal investments should be easily liquidated if you ever need it and your retirement should not. You'll thank me 30-40 years down the road.

Also, take less than 2% of this money and go out and have a good time... but only do it once. Don't make a habit or youll wake up in a year and wonder where all your money went. I was once a 18 year old kid who got 25k and it was gone in a year. :(

put it all on red. good luck :)

Kidding, put about 5% in precious metals, 20-30% in the stock market, maybe take 5% and try to start a business of some sort if thats your thing... and maybe use the rest as a down payment on a house.. if thats what you wanna do or save a big chunk in your emergency fund

Thanks for the followup, there are coaches out there that will charge hundreds an hour and some will talk game strategy, go through the hands with you and other coaches are strictly Mindset coaches. I believe players like David Williams and Josh Arieh use these mindset coaches and I just wondered if you were ever interested in becoming a coach or if someone should even employ a coach?

My 2cents? I think the cards come out the way the cards come out and theres nothing a coach can do... but what do i know? I don't have a bracelet :P

Also, there are coaching websites such as DuecesCracked etc etc...

I know you have stopped answered questions last night, so i want to thank you for your response!

Also, do you ever wear your bracelet in public? Keep it in a lock box? Got any pics of it?
