What do you all think of the proposal of a men's center at Simon Fraser University?

Honestly? I don't know. There isn't really any statistical data on it because the application of a men's center in modern university is untested and unproven. Drawing from personal emotions, I'd certainly be more comfortable telling somebody 'I'll be at the men's center after classes' then I would 'I'll be getting counseling after classes.' Even if the men's center is essentially synonymous with counseling, the name itself feels more empowering (it's hard to describe but it's the feeling of going somewhere men are supposed to go vs going somewhere because you feel... broke or inadequate).

There's a good chance I'm entirely wrong and the men's center will carry the exact same stigmas. Even worse, it may become that stereotypical 'boys club' that actively makes that stigma worse. But the equivalent style of support groups/centers have done demonstrably good for the non-priveleged groups (Women's centers, LGBT groups, Multicultural cenets), so I'd like to carry the same optimism to a men's center.

Additionally, the men's center (if run legitimately) should be able provide useful services to women and transgender students as well.

Because there's a huge social stigmatization amongst men for seeing a therapist or getting counseling. Being able to throw it under the catch-all "men's center" helps to remove the stigma.

Not where I am. But the company is small enough that even though I'm the lowest level employee, I only need to go up 3 tiers of bosses to reach the top guy. And the walk to any of those bosses takes about a minute. There's a lot of direct involvement on every person and the work they're doing with the overall company.
