I can vouch for some of these tool makers:

ACESA, ALYCO, IRAZOLA, IRIMO and PALMERA. Not saying the others are not good, just that I haven't owned any.

The ones I mention are all BIFL.

If your drive is phisically failing, every time you use it you are making things worse. Download and boot Parted Magic.

Use ddrescue (actually gddrescue in Parted Magic) by following some instructions to clone the drive to another drive internal or external, and then resize and re-write the MBR ( if needed), and set as boot.

Probably someone at a university or with a Microsoft subscription (Action Pack, MSDN, Technet, etc...) could find you one. I know Ms-DOS, as well as Windows 3.1 are available on Technet.

VS? I used to look after a WANG VS, as well as a couple of WANG OIS. Our VS had a couple of these disk pack drives, which plugged into a drive the size of a clothes washer.
