Young Americans Are Ditching Cigarettes by justsayboomin science

Those energy drinks are hell on your teeth. Rotting teeth don't tend to make the breath smell nice.

Many colleges and universities around the US are going smoke-free. As well as hospitals. No smoking on the property whatsoever. It's fucking bullshit.

But Elcoremino, why should anybody be allowed to smoke on hospital property? It seems counterintuitive....

Dude... wives and fathers and babies all die in hospitals. If something terrible like that happens to you, I hope you can smoke a cigarette without getting a ticket, if you so choose.

Take it outside, sure, of course.

I remember them making pizza and it being rock-hard. Yeah.... not a great movie, but as a kid it was OK.

IWTL how to appreciate fishing by JasonWeb54in IWantToLearn

Shhhhhh... don't tell people about how great fly-fishing is.

It's so hard to learn. So hard. It's not even fun once you figure it out. ;)

They may have hated us, but they loved the money.

Cheetahs was the one on the strip... it's "nicer." Leopards was slightly off the strip. I also think that Cheetahs wouldn't let you lay on the dance floor with a loonie in your mouth, but Leopards would.

Wasn't it called the Crazy Horse Saloon? And then the Haufbrau (sp) House was cool to start the night off.

Also... Ohio? BOOOOOOOOO!

It's a funny sort of joke that I like having it in the home for home protection, and yet it's tucked away with a trigger-lock on it and the shells are locked up in another place. Meh... still works great for hunting.

you can load a shell straight into the chamber, sure, but you can also load them through the bottom leaving the chamber empty. Then when you rack it, it ejects nothing and throws a round in. Just saying, if you wanted to scare and be ready to fire. My plan was always to scare with target shot and then, failing that, protect myself with goose shot.

Had a couple of beers with the cable guy when he came to install my shit. Sat around and chit chatted over a few of my Busch lights. I apologized for the quality of the beer. He was a nice guy and everybody needs a break during their shift.

Yeah... the Pacific Northwest is probably pretty tight thanks to the cocaine trafficking out of One Eyed Jacks.

We used to hit Leopards. Free breakfast buffet at midnight, and they had a free shuttle. Ah to be 19 and living in Detroit again--those were some fun nights.

Going into Canada has always been more of a pain in the ass, IMO, but I'm a US citizen. On the way back into the states, the always just chat me up to make sure I'm legit (I'm assuming: Questions like, "What do you do? Oh, a student, cool, what do you study? And what sort of job can you have with that degree? Awesome, well, welcome home.") but on the way into Canada they... I don't know... they're just cold. Probably if you're from somewhere trying to get into somewhere they want to know exactly why, but if you're just trying to get home, they want to get you on your way.

Young people tend to lie when entering back into the US from Windsor ("Oh, you say you were at the casino, how come your hand isn't stamped?"), thinking they might get into trouble or something, but we always told the exact truth. "Where did you visit? The stip-club?! Hell yeah. You don't have any strippers in the trunk, right? Alright, drive safe."--actual convo with US Border Security Agent in 2002.

ELI5: (North) American Prom by PoopOnMyChodein explainlikeimfive

[–]elcoremino 8 points9 points ago

That's a good point except the question was (North) American Prom, and if you count Canadians, the drinking age there is 19, so it's post graduation from High School anyway. Glad to have the link, but I sort of feel that it's irrelevant.

I guess it was possible in the 70s when the drinking age was still 18.... but today, you won't find that.

I am not a religious person but don't you think that you shouldn't be subscribed to r/atheism automatically like you are not subscribed to r/christianity or r/islam or r/judaism? by dbalciin AskReddit

[–]elcoremino 97 points98 points ago

OK... ELI5 how this doesn't make sense. It's based on subscription count, and it's a default for all new users. So, when someone new creates an account, they are now subscribed to r/atheism even if they never make a post. So, technically, anything that's default would have a high subscription. .....right? What am I missing here?

He Kept Saying, "Say you're sorry. Say you're sorry." by 46137in funny

[–]elcoremino 0 points1 point ago

I'm a parent and I don't like seeing this, but it's more of a "holy shit... so many things can go wrong in this situation. It's way too dangerous." Also, I don't know the context really, so I can't comment further on that. If it was light hearted punishment, then cool. But if this is a I can't handle this fucking shit anymore today sort of snap, then I depressingly wonder what sort of punishments happen when nobody else can see. Fun is fun, and all of us parents lose our cool from time to time (not to an abusive level, but a time-to-get-creative level) but it's hard to know what's happening here. Seems pretty alarmist to call it abuse.

Also, I don't know the context really, so I can't comment further on that.

I helped, but to say "my roommate and I made this bar" is a disservice to his accomplishment.
