Walking from project, is the code mine? by jsteampunkin gamedev

[–]elbiot 0 points1 point ago

OP hasn't posted enough of the contract to draw any conclusions. I dont think your theory that they have to pay 50% of the fee to keep the code has any support in what OP posted. From this little snippit it sounds like OP cannot hide anything he wrote for the game during the life of the contract even if he terminates and thus forfeits all payment. what does "return" mean with Products that are infinitely copy-able?

If the contract doesn't say one way or another about ownership of intellectual property then I assume things default to some legal standard which OP would need a lawyer to know. that this contract doesn't say anything about intellectual property, when it is a contract specifically about that, seems very odd to me.

edit: I do think that if they pay 100% that he has to help them secure ownership as the contract says.

If you want advise on a contract you signed, you should post the contract. You start with just telling us your presumptions about the contract, which no one can give you any valid feed back about. Then in response to a question you post the sentence or two that you feel is relevant and summarize some other parts. Posting the whole thing would be best.

Great perspective. and it turns out implementing this is even easier than presented. I am happy I read this.

Reddit: My friend is being scammed but doesn't believe me. How do I find hard proof? by ClairdeWhimsyin AskReddit

[–]elbiot 7 points8 points ago

does this scammer get anything out of all the effort they are putting in? How much do they email? After two effing years you'd have to be getting something.

Tell him to make a surprise trip there once and for all. Tell him if he really loved her so much why would he accept not being able to touch her when obviously she is so frail already. If she hasn't/won't tell him where she lives, wtf?

He could tell her he wants to mail her a present. UPS wont take a po box. Check the address she gives on google maps to see if it is one of those mail box companies. If it is, wait a week and have him call again and say the courier would not leave item at the company because of its value (just bull shit the bull shitter).

do not give up and keep getting information, like does she work? where? Alma mater is a great idea (just call and ask. you don't need to tell them elaborate lies, you just want to verify that the claim is correct. They sold that diploma and verifying it is what keeps forgeries and lies from devaluing it.)

this needs to be your friend's quest. I wouldn't support him in his bullshit if he is unwilling or unable to get a single verifiable piece of information about her.

blah, good night.

Your comment is a non-sequiter. the lieutenant was saying that you can't get pricked by a san pedro needle and get high from it. And then you start telling stories about a totally different drug.

Good / Bad landlord list? by srdrkrmin Austin

[–]elbiot 1 point2 points ago

you are asking for a lot of (personal) information which will never be used by anyone but you.

There should be a website like facebook except you can rate and review housemates, houses and landlords. people don't have to sign up to be rated, and if you join at some point you've got to "claim your listing" or be tagged by others as being "that guy" or something.

was it capcom's website with text saying "go for it?" Just because someone hacked a rom for you doesn't mean there is consent on behalf of the property owner.

You could find the owner of the rights of this art and ask, but they'd probably say no. Unless you phrased it like you're a student and you want to use it for a profit-less project. but just because you want to use the art doesn't mean you are entitled to it. So, that's that.

You can do whatever you want and I don't think it will practically be a problem. If you do get a cease and desist letter, you should probably generify your sprites as suggested elsewhere. I say do that only when needed though, because it has the lowest priority for getting your game playable asap.

you can download any image, sound, video, writing, etc. That is the nature of digital media, you can only view it by copying it. By your argument, all intellectual property disseminated on the internet is free for anyone to use however they want.

Practically, this is the case. Legally, it is not.

what do you mean they seemed pretty free? The artist or owner of the artwork told you you could use them, or put them under a licence such that anyone could use them without explicit permission? Or their IP rights ran out? these would be situations where the art is free.

If you mean not free but probably no one will care well, whatever you want. The game you linked to has a lot of original art.

I hope yours comes out soon and that its a lot of fun to play. Looking forward to it.

Anyone else think it would be interesting to set up a subreddit where all of the posts were a feed of every bill that goes through the U.S. congress? by handsoffmein politics

[–]elbiot 1 point2 points ago

Other subreddits have styles that make it clear what "upvote" and "downvote" mean in that subreddit. rather than "approve" or "I dont approve", theis subreddits style could make it clear we mean "people should know about this!" or "this is unimportant".

a functional reddit search is google using "site:reddit.com/r/funny/"

Also, tinyeye or karmadecay are better ways to search for reposted images.

How I feel as a Microbiologist when I hear people say vaccines cause Autism by grangermin funny

[–]elbiot 1 point2 points ago

I understand that, but fresh milk from a cow whose owner pays attention to it is generally safe. Its a little ignorant to think cow milk is inherently dirty and always needs to be pasteurized. fruit juice, commercially, is pasteurized, and the process destroys vitamins and enzymes in the juice. Would you drink orange juice you squeezed yourself without boiling it first?

They pasteurize milk because (one) commercially milk is stored for a long time and spoilage needs to be minimized, (two) commercially, cows are sometimes sick and not treated properly and (three) corporate dairy farmers would rather have one sterilization phase rather than be responsible for keeping their entire factory clean from start to finish.

also, bearicane put 'enzymes' in quotes as if it is some hokey hippie theory that there are naturally and beneficially enzymes in milk.

Patents can only be placed on new or novel genes, not existing ones, and novel techniques.

I would think so. But, can you explain this to me then:

MSU holds the patent on Gliocladium roseum. Parties interested in pursuing a license on the patent should contact MSU’s Technology Transfer Office.

have you ever had fresh milk? I didn't like milk until I tasted it fresh.

Also, you don't think there are enzymes in milk? Or that pasteurization doesn't denature them?
