Do you think that the Chief Science Officer position should be combined with Ops, like this guy?

I gave up a firefighting career to go work in poverty policy and analytics, because I feel that's a much more important contribution to make... even though it meant going back to school for six years (two more to go!)

Chamillionaire shares a first-hand account of Michael Jordan being a major ass hole - cause apparently he is. by creativeusername2in videos

Michael stayed in my hotel for about a week. He was around in the lobby/ restaurants a lot of the time. He was very short with the adults and staff, but had just all the time for every kid that came by. Stopping dinner conversations for 20 solid minutes to stop and speak a little with each kid, every meal, for the whole week, no time for any adults.

My favorite transcendentalist:

A moody child and wildly wise
Pursued the game with joyful eyes,
Which chose, like meteors, their way,
And rived the dark with private ray:
They overleapt the horizon's edge,
Searched with Apollo's privilege;
Through man, and woman, and sea, and star,
Saw the dance of nature forward far;
Through worlds, and races, and terms, and times,
Saw musical order, and pairing rhymes.

What is the best scathing review you have ever read? by fifteenhundredin AskReddit

[–]drunkbirth 0 points1 point ago

Peter Medawar's review of The Phenomenon of Man "Here is Teilhard's description of noogenesis, the birth of higher consciousness among the primates, and of the noosphere in which that higher consciousness is deployed:

By the end of the Tertiary era, the psychical temperature in the cellular world had been rising for more than 500 million years ... When the anthropoid, so to speak, had been brought 'mentally' to boiling-point some further calories were added ... No more was needed for the whole inner equilibrium to be upset ... By a tiny 'tangential' increase, the 'radial' was turned back on itself and so to speak took an infinite leap forward. Outwardly, almost nothing in the organs had change. But in depth, a great revolution had taken place: consciousness was now leaping and boiling in a space of super-sensory relationships and representations ...

The analogy, it should be explained, is with the vaporization of water when it is brought to boiling-point, and the image of hot vapor remains when all else is forgotten."

What is wrong in my thinking that it takes more than 60 seconds of hypoxia to kill someone? I thought the figure was more like 6-7 minutes.
