The Warriors are moving back to San Francisco by baklazhanin sanfrancisco

I think it was closed because of Larry Ellison's yacht beat-off party coming to town. I recall reading a whole lot of those businesses were being kicked out. I know Teatro Zinzani is gone. They probably used eminent domain to get the businesses closed down.

Mayor Lee Announces Golden State Warriors To Build New Arena On SF Waterfront by mjanesin sanfrancisco

[–]dmareddit 0 points1 point ago

No offense, they should have at least acted like they wanted the 49ers to stay in SF instead of going for the GSW.

What kills me is they could have had the 49ers play in Oakland for a season or two while Candlestick was demolished and a more modern arena was built. Roadways, parking, entrances, and exits already exist. The city could have easily fulfilled that problem.

But money talked and the city pretended it was out of their hands to save the team.

Bought a condo a few months back.

As a condo owner, I hate Recology. They are extremely anal about how cans should be filled, and what they will and won't pickup.

For a couple of weeks, they gave me crap for have my cans lids open a little because I overfilled a bit. It wasn't like it was budging out.

The guy tells me they normally don't pick up cans that have a little excess sticking out, but he was willing to make an exception.

I also found out its illegal to not have garbage for your address residence. For ten years, the previous owner of my condo was sharing trash and recycling with the unit below. The garbage guy told me of the health ordinance. They then stick a flyer on your door saying you have seven days to get your own garbage cans or be fined.

One more story. The shared backyard was overgrown with weeds. We were told that if we put all yard scraps in those giant paper bags for yard waste, Recology would pick up on normal garbage days and take them away. Guess what? They left them at the curb. I called and complained. Someone came out the next day and took them away.

It's a hard job I don't disagree with that, but Recology acts like their shit don't stink.

Fourth victim battling flesh-eating bacteria after accident by MrDongin conspiracy

[–]dmareddit 0 points1 point ago

Apparently this is common on the gulf in Texas, and in parts of Hawaii.

I recall a while back, some kid scratched his leg on a trailer hitch on a beach in Texas. He had to have his leg amputated because of flesh eating bacteria.

My friend who went to Hawaii a few months back stayed with some friends who were local to the island. Apparently flesh eating bacteria exists in certain parts of Hawaii as well.

I'm blaming this on people pumping themselves with anti-biotics and eating animals that were fed anti-biotics.

Mark Zuckerberg sells 30.2 million shares of $FB common stock at $37.58 by nico87in investing

[–]dmareddit 11 points12 points ago

I worked for Facebook and can explain this to what happened to me.

You get offered options at say, $1 for your strike price. Your offer is for 10,000 shares over the course of four years. So every year, you vest 1/4 of your total offered shares.

After year one, I have vested 2,500 shares at my strike price of $1 a share. So I have to pay $2,500 to exercise those shares (buy them), from my company. The strike price never changes, unless there is a split.

The strike price is determined by the company's internal valuation at the time of your accepting the options offer. So the company's valuation at the time was $1. But after your first year, the valuation is now $5.

So you pay $2,500 for 2,500 shares of your company's stock, but the value now (based off of internal value), is $12,500 for the stock you own. Because you bought the stock, it's now considered an asset and you pay the alternative minimum tax (AMT). The government taxes you on the difference of what you bought it at, vs what it's worth. The company usually declares the value in some tax form. I just handed over the paperwork to my tax guy and paid the state and federal government what I owed.

The best advice I can give anyone who gets offered options of a private company is, exercise your options as soon as you can buy them. The longer you wait, the wider the gap grows between what your strike price valuation is, vs the company valuation. The wider the gap, the more you'll pay in AMT.

Mark Zuckerberg sells 30.2 million shares of $FB common stock at $37.58 by nico87in investing

[–]dmareddit 2 points3 points ago

No you are correct. I had to do the same thing when I left my employer.

It's called the AMT. You're essentially paying the difference between what you bought the shares at, versus their internal value. You're taxed on the difference.

As I've said before, having the right tax person can help you deflect a lot of what you owe using legal tax loopholes and deductions.

Planning on buying a place, need a reality check by 99trumpetsin Frugal

[–]dmareddit 0 points1 point ago

Let me give you my take.

I bought a condo in SF with cash. I had enough to cover the cost.

My reasoning for buying the condo was this:

  • since I'm paying cash, I own it outright. No more landlords to deal with.
  • rent before I bought the condo was $1700 a month for a 450 sq/ft junior one bedroom. Since my wife and I are not paying a mortgage, our monthly cost for the condo (HOA and property tax), comes out to about $1100 a month. The condo is 1560 sq/ft.

We decided that those two items were enough reason to put our money into a condo vs renting. In our situation, since we could own the condo outright, and SF is in a surge with rental prices, we're considering this a nest egg for now. When the time is right, we can probably squeeze around $4000 in rent out of our condo due to the location and current rise in rental applications.

Just my two cents.

Serious question. What role do the Kennedy's have in the illuminati? Or how are they part of the elite? Seems like they all wind up dead from assassination or other form of death.

Well, everyone knows it, they just have the church deny it as well.

Apparently there are rumors floating around about Tom Cruise being seen in West Hollywood at gay bars. This was from another friend several years ago. I assume this was before the marriage to Katy.

I have a friend who works as a personal trainer in LA. He had to sub for another trainer one day in a gym. The gym happened to be where Travolta works out every now and then. My friend was being hit on by Travolta during the training session. He said he never felt so uncomfortable having the guy from Welcome Back Kotter hitting on him.

Catholic college drops health plan over contraception mandate by shallahin politics

[–]dmareddit 1 point2 points ago

Let me put something into perspective.

My friend needs to use birth control (the patch), to prevent small her from leaking/spotting urine, do to a bad UTI many years ago. Without the patch, she runs the risk of peeing herself lightly. If she laughs or something jostles her, it will happen. The patch lessens the ability for this to happen.

With Aetna insurance, the cost for one month supply is $86. A year ago, it was $40 I believe. Aetna chooses the out of pocket price on things like this.

Her alternative? Go to Planned Parenthood and claim she makes less than $15k a year. She gets four months supply of the patch, and they ask for $60, which she can afford or not afford. If she can't afford it, she gets her needs taken care of.

You can see why now Planned Parenthood gets picked on.

Sorry that I kind of steered off topic a little.

900 million people have put their likes into their accounts. FB can target ads to people based on their likes. Advertising is a lot more lucrative. I call it surgical advertising.

If You Live In California Things Just Got A Whole Lot Worse by iemmawriterin conspiracy

[–]dmareddit 2 points3 points ago

I've mentioned this before when talking about California's budget problems. A lot of the money problems can be eliminated if the correctional officers union was less powerful.

This will sound skeptical, but I've read that the correctional officers union wields a lot of lobbying power with Sacramento and that is one of the budgets the state government is not allowed to fuck with.

As we've seen with posts peppered around reddit, the prison system is a money making scheme for businesses. I would not be surprised with all the gangs in California prisons, that the correctional officers control drug trafficking and other forms of criminality, and they won't let the government touch that prized pig.
