Preserving the Dead (and others): The Owsley Stanley Foundation, dedicated to preserving and sharing the experience of the psychedelic era through Bear’s Sonic Journals by digitalin gratefuldead

[–]digital[S] 0 points1 point ago

The Foundation’s primary purpose is to arrange for the preservation and eventual production and public distribution of Owsley Stanley’s “Sonic Journals,” a unique (and rapidly deteriorating) archive of more than 1,300 live concert soundboard recordings from the 1960s and 1970s, including rare recordings of performances by such prominent artists as Miles Davis, Johnny Cash, The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Santana, Taj Mahal, Fleetwood Mac, The Allman Brothers, Steve Miller, Ramblin’ Jack Elliot, Thelonious Monk, Dr. John, Dan Hicks, Chuck Berry, Country Joe and the Fish, Janis Joplin, Big Brother and the Holding Company, Electric Flag, Blue Cheer, The Youngbloods, David Grisman, Old and in the Way, and others.

Now that is something worth saving!

Jerry's opening notes of the 1989 Hampton Warlocks Dark Star sent electricity up and down my body - no kidding!

Things like this make you happy. The GD forever(?) preserved for the generations of the future. Furthur in to the time/space continuum...

Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile :)

Animal Collective - What Would I Want? Sky (The first legal sampling of a Grateful Dead song) by TheAdoringFanin gratefuldead

[–]digital -1 points0 points ago

So they sampled Phil on Unbroken chain and didn't even leave the lyric 'I often wonder why' in there?

Knowing the original, it just sounds strange, but I guess that is what they wanted.

Why was taping not allowed at Jerry shows? by muddypawsin gratefuldead

[–]digital 0 points1 point ago

Sometimes I think about if there is another guitarist today that compares to Jerry's knowledge and composition of original and cover songs and number of performances a year, I can't really think of any.

Roger Waters: Why I left Pink Floyd (video from 60 Minutes) by zutronicsin pinkfloyd

[–]digital 2 points3 points ago

Dave Gilmour's amazing guitar work will NEVER be replaced by an imitation of him IMHO

I still love Roger, but Dave's 'musicality' can NOT be replaced.

Why was taping not allowed at Jerry shows? by muddypawsin gratefuldead

[–]digital 1 point2 points ago

Jerry says in an interview that the Grateful Dead were hard work and he would get nervous believe it or not before Dead shows. JGB shows were easy, relaxed and felt more comfortable to perform.

C/overt tapers will always exist, somehow.

What was the worst dead show ever? by spudtopiain gratefuldead

Read Gratefulbread's review of 8-2-76

The crowd and security (not the music) sounds pretty bad!
