I just don't think he has really released anything that has sent anyone to jail (except maybe Bradley Manning) and yet he pulls a stunt like this because he actually thinks that he is the face of 'anonymous' or the new journalist/whistle blower movement.

I just don't see what he has actually leaked. Most of what he has released has resulted in more military action by the US. He hasn't released anything about the financial criminal bank CEOs and central banks giving themselves trillions in (until recently) undisclosed loans and grants.

I still don't trust this guy. Why has he still not released the information on Bank of America he has?

Man its a shame that you can't even recognize that this man knew this was going to be a problem 25 years ago. Just because this man was ahead of the ball doesn't mean you can blame his for not 'doing anything'

I'm not misleading anything. You implied that. I just said that he has. Nothing more, nothing less. If you want to include all the non US citizens he kills (almost on a daily basis) with drone strikes, then that's another story.

Thats a good point... by dieyoungin politics

He can also just not sign it....The president isn't obligated to sign anything.

But if you are arbitrarily accused of being a terrorist or committing a "belligerent act", boy, you better be terrified for your life.

Why do Obama supporters make excuses for him when he supports things that are unfavorable to the same supporters? by dieyoungin politics

You have already made up your mind with no desire to actually look at anything that challenges your decision.

I could say the same about you. NDAA isn't that bad, it looks like you've made up your mind and decided to take the word of the people that told you Saddam had WMDs in a cave.

You are the one making assumptions. The language is plain for anyone to read.

No, they are actively working against our interest and in the interest of themselves and their campaign contributors. He didn't object to anything, he signed it with barely more than a whimper. Obama is a murderer and a liar.

[–]dieyoung[S] 0 points1 point ago

You are talking about section 1031. I was takling about section 1021. In no previous AUMF bills has the language been so broadly encompassing to include anyone 'committing a belligerent act'. Ever. They are not the same, read the actual bill yourself and stop regurgitating peoples talking points.

So tell me, what is the difference between leaving US citizens out of the Act, therefore implicitly keeping the powers the same, and explicitly stating in the Act that the powers are the same?

I'm not talking about American citizens, I have a problem with the interpretation of that clause and the fact that the government feels like it has the right to declare that it can detain anyone indefinitely.

No, they are very different and much more wide reaching. Anyone can be accused of a 'belligerent act'

This is for FEDERAL STUDENT LOANS. There is a MUCH larger market out there for student loans than only from the government. The government does support and subsidize private banks to give out student loans at low interest rates though.

But Obama has been working to control tuition increases.

How? Is he a dictator? How can he force anyone to lower their prices? The real question is, why are prices rising? The answer is that its easier and easier for kids with no credit to get a fat student loan because the government will basically back them up if the student doesnt pay it back, which in turn encourages the schools to raise tuition in perpetuity.

The govt subsidizes NIH and other institutions that do groundbreaking healthcare research. Do you think that is a bad thing?

I think they could be done more cheaply and effectively in the private market.

When Obama moved the banks out of being the middle men for govt student loans

He hasn't done this.

Banks making loans for profit that are backed by the government is not good practice.

This is still done every single day.

Do you think that you don't use the services that the govt provides?

Do I have a choice? Was I ever given a choice? Why do I have to pay into social security if I don't want to and I accept the fact that I will never receive those benefits in the future?

You breath air and drink water that is protected by the EPA.

The EPA is just an agency that gives out pollution permits to the biggest companies. They did a great job preventing the BP oil spill and allowing Nalco to dump millions of gallons of corexit into the ocean, which I'm sure they got a very lucrative contract for.

You travel on airplanes that are regulated by FAA for your safety.

They don't do a good job either.

The government doesn't always do what we want or what it should do, but to insinuate that it does nothing but waste our tax dollars on things we don't use is completely detaching yourself from reality.

Please man, the majority of money that the government gets is spent on killing other people. Not only that, but if you were to collect all tax receipts, that would only cover something like 40-50% of all government spending. The majority of government spending is just debt accumulation.

Since the only way the government can finance itself is by making people pay thing (involuntarily), it proves to me, from the outset, that people actually don't want what the government provides and would prefer something else with that money they would be able to keep instead.

Yes it is. It never said those words in other AUMF bills.
