A couple of things that you need to consider.

Do you think they might want to make a push into the uk market? If yes, price goes up! Is it a good sounding 4 letter? price goes up!

Check out dnjournal for previous .co.uk sales. There is some serious garbage that sells like Zoorama.co.uk for $13k. Like you said, the domain is worth what the buyer thinks its worth.

Personally I would go a bit higher than 10k to start. maybe something like 12.5 and hopefully you can end at around 10. It doesn't hurt to start a bit higher especially since it sounds like they actually want the name.

The other option is wait till they launch the .com and see if they come back at you with a higher number. The risk with this is that they might realize they don't need the .co.uk and you are stuck in the mud.

I agree completely. The responsiveness of the site is also very well done. Also looks like they are using the kohana php framework. These guys really did use some nice tech to get this site up and running quick. they must have recently bought the name from the squatter that has been sitting on this domain since 2001

cnames should not point to IP addresses. You should have something like the below

[hostname] - [type] - [address]

@ - CNAME - long.com.

www - CNAME - long.com.

and on your hosting side it sound correct

couple things that can make this work.

longdomainname.com has its own ip address
ouracronym.ca is set up with a cname record to longdomainname.com
short-URL is the same on both longdomainname.com and ouracronym.ca

Problems you may encounter and how you could go about fixing.

longdomainname.com is on shared hosting and shares an ip address with many other site. FIX: check to see if your hosting account allows add on domains. A lot of hosting providers allow this. If you can add a domain on to your account you can then set up an A record to point to the ip address.

Oh wait I cant think of any other problems at the moment.
