Why!!! by AguywithLegsin WTF

I've always used the expression, "Does it hurt to be that stupid?" Now, I have a visual to stand alongside the expression.

By your definition, the meme is correct because of the CONTEXT of the passage, which you are not getting in this excerpt. The reader is viewing the racist South through the eyes of the innocent character, Scout, who understands her world by the actions presented in it, but she weighs what she experiences with what Atticus, her father, presents her as the Truth. Therefore, Scout must make this assumption because of the genuine attitude of those around her and because Atticus must teach her a lesson, and the lesson is intended for the reader, as well. Harper Lee was a realist writer and NOT a racist.

It should be read as history, not entertainment.

This is a good example of how taking something completely out of context can cause the passage to be misconstrued as racist instead of social commentary.

it's only dramatic because you're underneath the cat. Therefore, you like taking pictures of your cat from dramatic angles.

Hmmm. It's funny how you grouped me with your radical Christian ideals. Again, had you read what I wrote, I even said people are not to live strictly by the Bible; it's the ones who do that you need to be afraid of, but I guess you only have one idea of a Christian and that's a shame. Also, I was never seeking your approval, and until you can prove your scientific knowledge to me, I'll just consider you to be ignorant of debatable practices and chalk everything you say up to what you've read on memes on Reddit. Good Luck.

1) How have I challenged it?

2) Are you saying I'm holding extremist Christians back and that I should let them terrorize you? Because that's exactly what your "disservice" statement sounds like.

3) You sound like one of those asshole atheists who need no further commenting. It is people like you who hold back the progress of social evolution. Please see yourself out the door.

4) Had you read and understood what I wrote, you would see that I'm not as "vocal" as those people who knock on your door. In fact, I don't try to convert anyone, so your assertions are batting .000, so take your ball and go home.

I believe in the concept of the Bible and what it stands for. Do I believe there is a God who had a Son, Jesus, yes. Has either been proven or unproven, no. Do I believe God plays an active role in our lives, not so much. I believe in logic, free will, and reason, that we seek our own lives and answers here, but we should keep the teachings with us. An actual Christian is not polluted by the Word. The Bible even warns against those who take the Word too seriously and live strictly by it. I won't quote anything from the Bible because I feel that damages whatever context it came from since I can pull anything from any other book and have it mean what I want it to, too.

Do I agree with science, yes. I love science, especially physics. The debate between Creationism and Evolution is dumbest thing I've ever heard or read because neither can occur without the other. If we evolved from some microbial substance, something had to create it. If God placed Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden, history and science show that we've evolved and adapted over the last 10,000+ years, so it's really hard to separate the two unless you're an extremist asshole Atheist or an extremist asshole Christian, and I despise both extremes.

Also, I believe that Christians should not push their religion on other people. Again, there's something in the Bible that prohibits that because we're suppose to tell the word and let the person decide for themselves, not force it on them or spoon feed it to them. In fact, I've probably torn apart more door-to-door Christians than most atheists have. At the same time, I can't stand atheists who only hate religion because it's an unprovable mindset or a means of governmental control. I'm so liberal that I scare most of my Democratic friends. And speaking of friends, most of mine are atheists, and I have some gay and lesbian ones as well, and we still manage to get along without any problems or debates. Maybe everyone should just get off their soapboxes and see the world for what it is.

Thank you. I'm a Christian, and I've been saying this all along. Also, I'm a Christian who despises the Bible Belt, so don't try to say I don't understand the meme. Peace.
