If you had to choose between a terrorist attack killing 10,000 civilians or the government having cameras in every house indefinitely which one would you pick and why?

Tony Blair and George Bush's phone conversation a week before Iraq invasion 'must be released' by waggawaggain worldnews

[–]destructaball 106 points107 points ago

Hey guys I got a copy of the redacted conversation!

Blair: Hi George
Bush: Sup landslide... hows the wife
Blair: Pretty good thanks she just████████████████ ██████████████████████████████████████ ██████████████████████████████████████ ██████████████████████████████████████ ██████████████████████████████████████ ██████████████████████████████████████ ██████████████████████████████████████ ██████████████████████████████████████ ██████████████████████████████████████ ██████████████████████████████████████
Bush: It's fine we don't recognise the international criminal court well I'd best be off Powell needs a walk

Nothing of note is going to come of this, it's going to be redacted to shit for "national security reasons" and by that they mean because it'd be super embarrassing if the truth came out.

In Germany, people are baffled by how hostile a country as religious as the United States can be to the principle of mandatory healthcare insurance. Not even conservatives question the system, which businesspeople say gives Europe's largest economy a competitive advantage. by davidreiss666in worldpolitics

But regardless the government/society has a vested interest in you keeping yourself out of hospital, so blanket drug legalisation (heroin, cocaine) is quite difficult to justify because everyone would have to pay for it not just the users if you accept that legalisation would push up consumption. There is no such argument in a society without health care so there is very little argument against legalising everything. I think a big problem for the right is that you get bigots and people who are afraid of progress warping fairly reasoned arguments into a slogan they shout at people. This detracts hugely from any of the more reasonable right wing arguments.

I also live in a country with universal healthcare and I agree with you that universal health care is a great thing but I'm think that many people on reddit simply don't understand these peoples anti healthcare argument even if it is wrong in my opinion

That's like finding a camera in your shower and your landlord saying sorry about that, I'll fix it soon.

I've always sort of understood the idea that universal health care limits personal freedom. When society pays for your medical bills they sort of have a right to tell you not to various self destructive things like taking drugs or drinking or eating too many fatty foods. This is a price I'm willing to pay for universal healthcare but I could understand why some people wouldn't.

Ironically America seems to take away a lot of these freedoms anyway without any of the upsides because...yea politics

I'm not that familiar with American law, but couldn't the rules be seen as a contract between the candidates and the party. Also if any American lawyers are reading this, do mechanisms like the ones used in finnigan v nzrfu exist in the US?

Use Airdroid when you go into the get screenshot section of the webapp it displays the current screen and live updates. You need to have rooted your phone though to do that but Airdroid is free.

Dr. Ron backs competing currencies. What is his stand on the coming Amero? by seltaeb4in ronpaul

[–]destructaball 1 point2 points ago

I don't think that an Oil based currency (the Oiler) is a very good idea. There is a ever dwindling supply of Oil while there is a fairly constant supply of gold because it isn't really consumed much. You'd have ridiculously high levels of deflation which would cripple the economy. Then the price of oil would get so high that people would doubt that america has enough wealth to actually give the appropriate amount of oil for every single Oiler in circulation. The central bank would start pushing up interest rates way above the rate of increase of the Oil price which would temporarily lower the amount of Oilers in circulation but in the long run this would either ruin Americas credit rating in the case of default or just compound the problem with more Oilers in circulation later on. There would eventually be a run on the central bank demanding that their money be traded for oil when people are sure there is no way the government can back the currency and no one wants to buy it at the price of Oil any more. The currency would crash there would be hyperinflation and shit wouldn't be so great.

Are there any non-religious arguments against banning same-sex marriage? by PepSupChOthin AskReddit

[–]destructaball 0 points1 point ago

Are we talking about actual same sex marriage here or civil unions (a legal union which is identical to marriage in all but name) because the former has plenty of secular arguments against it while the latter is pretty difficult to argue with.

[–]destructaball 7 points8 points ago

That's not universally true. You can sue the US government if you're backed by another state in the world intellectual property organisation's court. Then if you win the case the WIPO countries add tarrifs to US goods to make up the value of your settlement. They could argue that by taking their website they are taking away their trademark rights and they might be able to sue them for that.

But there again I am just a very tired person who isn't a qualified lawyer so I'm probably not the best person to give advice

They should give the zombies two sorts of attack, swipe and bite. Once you've been bitten your max health should gradually decrease unless you are given a rare cure. Then when you die you turn into a more powerful hostile and to stop people working with human zombies if you're close enough to a human for too long the AI takes over and attacks
