There is such a strong stigma associated with mental illness for those still wearing the uniform. I try and tell my guys all the time, there is nothing wrong with getting help. When you break your leg you go to the DR, you don't fix it yourself. Your brain is no different. Everyday I hear how much of a pussy someone is that has mental issues. I also hear "How could they have PTSD, they didn't see shit!" Hate to break it to you guys, doesn't matter where you went, what you saw, or what you did, anyone can get PTSD.

Doesn't matter how much you left the wire, how many missions you ran, just the fact that you were sent thousands of miles away from your friends and family to an unknown place and surrounded by people that wanted you dead is enough to fuck with your head enough that when you get back, you very well could suffer from PTSD.

People also need to realize that they will change after a deployment. You don't just go away for a length of time and come back like nothing happened. If someone that has known you for years tells you that you have changed and that you need help 9 times out of 10 they are right. I have been there myself, I was that guy, my wife said it. I called her a bitch, a liar, a cunt, a slut. I was heavy into alcohol. It took me barricading myself inside my home with a firearm to realize, holy fuck, she was right, I really do need help. I was that tough guy, I had been in multiple fire fights, I got blown up, I saw dead bodies, I saved lives. I was the ultimate bad ass, there was no way I could have PTSD. Boy was I wrong. I'm just glad that I was able to realize it before I seriously injured myself or someone else.

Go down to your local vet center, if you don't feel comfortable doing that, get on military one source you can chat online with a counselor. Please, what ever you do, no matter how bad it gets, don't ever take your own life. Suicide is a long term solution to a short term problem. There are people that care about you, people that love you. Hell, if you ever wore the uniform, I care about you. You are my brothers and sisters in arms you are like family to me and deep down I love each and every one of you like you are my own.
