Check to see if any of your local arenas have any power skating courses. I learned how to play ice hockey a few years ago, and after learning how to skate a power skating class was my next step. It was pretty much a mock hockey practice, dressed in full gear learning basic hockey skills and footwork. Passing, shooting, stick handling, cross overs, etc..

Also, I'm 26 and started playing about 3 years ago. If you're in a hockey city then you'll probably be able to find a league that has lots of divisions so you can enter a low tier.

If you can already render poly's and textures you shouldn't have too much problem whipping up your own font solution.

Yeah, in my case I'm talking about games. It's usually just lots and lots of .cpp and .h files and huge link times. Linking is usually the worst. Though if you do a build through the whole pipeline and have to build/package data, then the time can increase by hours.

Depends what you're compiling. I've worked on projects where a full rebuild could take 30-40 minutes. Though usually, if i'm only changing 1 file, and it's not a header that is used everywhere, then a compile can take 10 seconds.

It depends what you want to learn. If you just want to make a game, and deal with the logic and frame work of that game, then use a free engine.

If you want to learn about more low level stuff such as graphics programming (OpenGL/DirectX), input handling, sound, networking, collision detection, asset loading, memory management, etc..., then just pick a language and look up game engine tutorials online. C++ and C# are pretty popular and I think XNA is decent. If you want to be more portable then OpenGL is better. But beware that it is a ton of work to make a game and it'll be tough without good tools that a free engine will provide.

Anyways, this is all just relevant to 3d games, I don't know anything about how 2d games are made.

You can definitely set keyboard shortcuts, it's somewhere in the Expose/Spaces system prefs.

Though it might just be directional shortcuts.

I like the concept of spaces, and do have it enabled on my macbook. However 80% of the time I use a keyboard shortcut to switch spaces, the spaces overlay stays up and my keyboard loses functionality. Same if I use jiTouch to switch spaces. They only way it works bug free for me is if I switch spaces by clicking on a program icon in the dock. So it's pretty much useless for me. :(
