I think there are some questions that should be addressed while you consider pressing charges.

Was this the first time that anything like this happened between your sister and the other girl, or has there been an ongoing problem? Do either of them have a history of violence or other unacceptable social behavior?

How has this affected your sister (physically, emotionally, socially)?

What are the girl's parents saying about this?

Most importantly, do you feel like pressing charges will help resolve a serious issue that otherwise would continue? If so, then I would consider pressing charges. Otherwise, try to resolve this out of court.

I don't know what your new living situation will be like, but I have a few words of advice from my own experiences.

Don't live with your closest friends. It always looks nice on paper, but when you live together small annoyances start to add up and cause unnecessary tension. Plus, it's always nice to have a place to go hang out that isn't where you live.
Do your best to keep it clean. First of all, leaving behind a mess is how you get ants. Moreover, if you're bringing over a girl/guy that you are interested in, it is nice to have a clean place. No one wants to bang on dirty laundry.
If you don't know how, learn how to cook. It's cheaper, healthier, and a nice skill to have in life. It will also earn you bonus points with that special someone if you can bring him/her over for a nice meal in a clean place.
Try living with roommates before you decide to live alone. Yes, finding a good roommate can be hit and miss, but it can also make you a better person. Just having a roommate around can you accountable for cleaning up, being responsible, and respectful out of common courtesy. It also gives you an opportunity to meet new people, and make new friends. Then, when you finally decide to live alone, you can really appreciate it.
Month-to-month is the shit. If you can find something like that and avoid being tied to a long-term lease, do it. You never know when you might want to get the fuck out of dodge.

These are the major things I've learned along the way that I can think of. It's late and I've been working all day so I probably left some important things out, but I'll add anything I think of later.
