Question about recording using the 2-track output by sound_guruin audioengineering

[–]cornflaik 2 points3 points ago

... probably... the way I read the Olympus spec it only had a Mic Level input but with 3 gain settings Low/Med/High...

The RCA jacks coming out of the desk will be consumer level line outputs (aka -10 Line Level)

so as I see it you will face two problems:

1.) The Ohm of the desk output will probably not match the expected 2kOhm that the Olympus is expecting, my guess is this will cause some deviation from what you are hearing out of the desk in the upper frequencies, but I but you wont be able to tell...

2.) the line out into the Mic input of the recorder is not looking good.... I hope that the designer of the recorder had the for-sight to make the Low gain setting work as a sudo-Line input. I know a lot of company's make it so the lowest gain setting is a basic match for a line input to expand the usability of the device. but following that line of though one would think it would be listed as a feature to increase the product value.

So all in all I would say it "should work", try it. I will give you 70/30 odds

I was thinking it looks like a Epic cage.... I like to think that Warhammers 40k is shot on both...

care to take a wager on the lenses the look like CP2 Primes....

Pro Tools freezes when bouncing mixes. by User0708in protools

[–]cornflaik 3 points4 points ago

Dont use bounce to disk! have all of your track send out to a sub group, have that sub group go into a new audio track and record down to that.

I know its not a solution to shy your system is crashing but it a solution and a MUCH better work flow!

Clean the iron, then tin it, use it, tinning you components as you go.use the iron 3 or 4 times few times, then cleane the iron. Start again.

point being you getting better heat transfer from the larger liquid-ish tip then just touching the side of the iron to your component, but it dose need to be cleaned frequently

A huge part of audio to picture is that you need to not break the suspension of disbelief. I find that I would rather have my dialog a consistent volume with a changing noise floor then to have dialog volume change, espesualy if that change is on a visual cut. You eye and ear can be more forgiving if the cuts are not together... L-cuts... HOOOOOOO!

Also try to find an ambiance you can use throught the whole scene that can help cover the RXed dialog.

Remember consistency is your friend!

(when appropriat of course yelling and whispering are different volumes) c

My mixes sound great on my nice monitors, and my nice headphones. My mixes sound like shit everywhere else. Advice? by Serviosin WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]cornflaik 3 points4 points ago

I would recommend mixing for a period of time at a quieter volume(5 minutes every hour). I find that you can sometimes make some good comparisons to a reference track at lower volumes(<30-50dB SPL) that are only 1 or 2dB changes and more apparent then at louder volumes(>70dB SLP). This method is not going to work well for comparing low frequency elements, it will do better with higher frequency things live comparing the relative volume of a snare and the vocal in you mix and reference track.

can you send me the values for -16dB, -32dB, and -64dB.

Thanks! this is very similar to results I had already had...

HELP! -Calculating resistor values along a logarithmic (reveres audio taper) curve for a stepped attenuator. by cornflaikin ECE

[–]cornflaik[S] 0 points1 point ago

I am going to use the value for a -1dB, -2dB, -4dB, -8dB, -16dB, -32dB attenuator, the I will use the combinations of these to create the full range of up to and beyond 2k5 Ohms. and yes I will use a computer to apply the correct combinations of resisters to achieve the correct gain setting.

it is the insane way of doing this, but its the best for audio quality.... can you make some recommendations for digipots, maybe there are some that will work....
