Really San Antonio? by bespectacledcurlin sanantonio

[–]cloudiestdragon 0 points1 point ago

My exact thought. I don't like going to bars and night clubs, it isn't my scene. I am not huge into parties. San Antonio is relaxing to me and feels more friendly. I love the smaller towns/cities too! Like Fredericksburg, Boerne, Castroville, etc.. Just something about walking down their small city centers for the day and scavenging for antiques or so. Popping in somewhere and getting an ice cream. It's fun!

Well I did move in a heartbeat, and as much as I love Sweden and was glad to just get away from some things in San Antonio, you grow to realize what certain places have and lack. Sweden is excellent with public transportation (I live in Göteborg) so I have no need for a car and take the bus and tram everywhere. The health care is good, I don't have to worry about that, meication is cheap, the cost of living is kind of high if you live in the city. Some drawbacks: I miss the heat (it stopped snowing last month here), I miss the huge variety of choices you have at restaurants and grocery shops, even shopping wise. I pay nearly triple to go out to eat here and get half the amount of food.

But I am staying of course, I just enjoy going back home to San Antonio and stockpiling up on clothes, shoes, and other inexpensive items that would cost triple here. If you really look and expand your mind, you can enjoy San Antonio and find something it has to offer. San Antonio is much bigger than Göteborg, though I feel like Göteborg is lacking in many things and ways. San Antonio is lacking as well too, the city is too damn big! Everything is so spread out it is a nightmare! But that is most US cities.

I went to a Tex- Mex restaurant here, ordered some fajitas, and I got back some type of soup thing. That is how bad "Tex-Mex" is. The soup thing wasn't even that good. They assume good Tex-Mex is spicy as hell. I should open a restaurant here maybe.

Well, like I said, personally I hold those into high regard. I am not one for going to bars/pubs and nightclubs and maybe not others are either? I have been to a few in San Antonio, and it's a nice experience every once in a while.

I think all of you putting down San Antonio (and possibly live here) need to move away and then realize what you are missing. I was born and raised in San Antonio and I moved to Sweden 3 years ago. There is a lot I miss about the city. I miss First Friday, Fiesta, the Riverwalk, some great burgers at Chris Madrid's, awesome Tex-Mex food, great breakfast tacos, great shopping, downtown in general, Sea World, Fiesta Texas, Minnano Japanese Grocery shop, chilling at a shisha bar, going bowling, etc. I know maybe Austin can offer some of these things, but I just miss a lot from San Antonio, and I have lived in Austin for a couple of months, and I liked it, though as other said it has more of a college feel. I like live-music, but I prefer to just sit comfortably in a restaurant with friends or go bowling.

I'm pretty sure everyone is entitled to benefits since there is an increasing number of immigrants coming into the country. In fact, it is becoming a problem since a lot of the tax money goes to help immigrants become stabilized and find jobs, though there aren't many jobs to give. :P Still, I haven't had many problems!

Soup soup soup! You can make a ton of soup for cheap. Freeze leftovers if you have to! Also I go to the grocery store when they open and buy the soon to expire meat (which is usually like half off) and just freeze it.

Homemade Iced Tea by RomanticFoxin fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuud

But boiling the water before would kill the bacteria? Are you supposed to mix the tea with lukewarm water and leave it out in the sun? Or boil the water first, mic the tea bags, and then leave it out? I have never made sun tea.

Usually you want the water/tea hot enough so the sugar dissolves properly. At least every time I try to sugar already cool/iced tea the sugar just floats to the bottom most of the time (unless I use some sugary powder substitute).

Well, yes, in general, I find $50 a month would be quite cheap for health insurance. If I was making double what I was I would probably jump on the offer. (Or if I was older, had a family, etc...) Though now I moved to a country where I don't have to worry about health insurance and I can just walk in to a clinic and pay nothing. Feels good man.

I actually never drink coffee at all, but I got the french press as a wedding gift and thought "hmm... maybe I can use it for tea?" And woo, works fine! Also, do you dilute your tea with water afterwards? (or just pour it out and enjoy it that way without adding anything?) I just make a big pitcher to last a while. Sometimes I don't need to add baking soda to it really. I buy a lot of fruity loose leaf tea and it tastes delicious iced. :)

Is it really? How?!

Homemade Iced Tea by RomanticFoxin fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuud

[–]cloudiestdragon 1 point2 points ago

Depends on the tea.

I do step #2 all the time but with a coffee press and loose leaf tea. I make a really dark brew and dilute it with water. So like 1/4th part heavy brew and 3/4th parts water. It works perfect!

I usually do this, though when I make iced tea I make it using a coffee press and steep it much longer. I put the loose tea leaves on the bottom, poor some boiling water over it, let it set for about 15-20 minutes, then I add some sugar (or sugar substitute) and a tiny bit of baking soda so where it is still hot enough to dissolve, then I pour it into a pitcher and "heavily" dilute it with water (like 1/4th part strong concentrated tea mixture with 3/4th parts cold water) then I leave it in the fridge to cool. Turns out excellent every time for me (and not bitter at all). Though when I make a regular hot cup of tea I just steep it for 3-5 minutes like you suggested.

Not really when I go to the doctor once every couple years, plus $50 for insurance that I would never use when I can just head to a medclinic or planned parenthood for anything and it costs usually $50. Plus, average rent is $650 which is a bit over half, I have to pay for food, gas, school, etc. I would still have to pay out of pocket over half so I remember reading. It just wasn't worth it to me.

That is why I don't support Apple or Gamestop any longer. Lucky for them they have a bunch of "loyals" who would love to work there and yet only find out later how shit it can be. But if you love working minimum wage and busting your ass trying to meet a quota, by all means please feel free. Though I would recommend if you like meeting quotas and busting your ass to make good numbers that you work for a car dealership or some other commission based job that actually gives you incentives for busting your butt. It's not childish, it is smart to realize your strengths and weaknesses and realize how a company truly runs. Take advantage of the situation and find something better. But if you are happy working at Gamestop or Apple, then stay there!
