this is the well-formed opinion i've been looking for to ground my nebulous feelings about season 3! i'm not there yet with embracing where it went but i'm working on it. i do feel there has to be a balance regarding quirks-vs.-character though, if the quirks take over then it becomes more of a sketch show.

ok i think we have different definitions of breaking the 4th wall, to me it doesn't happen unless they comment on it directly. it's a fuzzy line though since so much of this show is about commentaries on pop culture (including sitcom tropes).

breaking the 4th wall would involve Abed (or other characters) openly acknowledging that he is a character on a tv show called 'community'. i don't believe Messianic Myths does that. certainly it includes lots of commentary that brushes 4th wall territory but it still stays within that wall. similarly, the 2nd season opener has Abed talking about 'spinning off' and livening things up with a wedding episode. these could be considered jokes about the 4th wall but again they don't cross the line. to me it's an important distinction because if they ever really did break the 4th wall, the show would lose much of its power as a crucible of pop culture.

that said, any excuse to rewatch an episode ...

yep, that's the place! when the surrounding neighborhood got a little fancy, the city cracked down on the old couple who owns it and tried to condemn the building. they made a deal with a developer to save the building and turn it into condos (to maintain the sculpture work on the roof). but the financing fell through and now the art has been stripped off and the future of the property is in doubt.

not familiar with either but the tascam has a nice set of features (but it's hard to say if you'd really need them). the multimix is nice in that it's pretty much just a means to get your signal into the computer, there's something to be said for not overthinking things. still, if the price is comparable i'd probably go with the tascam.

like everybody else says, the only way to do it is to ask him to leave. it's tough but guys like this are immune to hints and will never take the initiative to leave on his own.
