TROPHY CASE

What story do you tell that no one belives until you provide proof? (NSFW pics inside) by Leuffenin AskReddit

I seriously doubt this. That looks survivable.

In the most liberal Democratic state in the country, where the government routinely "interferes" in the economy and a key Obama ally is governor, job creation is up and unemployment is down. (x-post from /r/progressive) by progress518in obama

[–]chemistry_teacher -1 points0 points ago

In fairness, these qualifiers do nothing to support the argument, but rather serve to obfuscate it more. Let's compare VA with MA, throw in Missouri (a bellwether state) and a large-enough conservative state such as OK; interestingly, the unemployment rate is falling quickly in all of them. The article's point is poorly correlated to political leanings.

Edit: I might also point out that Oklahoma, the most conservative state on the chart, has a wide diversity of industries. Wikipedia is quick to point out that "It has one of the fastest growing economies in the nation, ranking among the top states in per capita income growth and gross domestic product growth."

In China and many other Asian nations, men hold hands with men, and women hold hands with women, whether straight or gay. It is simply a sign of friendly affection. However, if a man and a woman holds hands, then it is surely an indication of a romantic relationship. If anything, this means there would be no telling whether someone is gay at first glance.

Your dad had wives consecutively, but my dad (a real cunning linguist, by the way, now deceased) tried his best to have wives concurrently. He was twice required to "remarry" because his prior marriages were not finalized divorces.

I learned only 3 years ago that he was married a sixth time when I read a 50+ year old divorce announcement in a newspaper of record.

He also came ashore with Gen. Patton in Morocco, and has many stories about himself that he wouldn't tell, which we've pieced together throughout the years.

My own life would not be a movie worth watching, but his would properly be titled Yeah, right... I have a hard time believing I have no half-siblings, but so far the evidence is lacking.

Had to take a driver test at work. The answer they wanted was 90%. I told the HR person that all the answers were correct. She disagreed. I eventually just gave up. by graptemysin pics

[–]chemistry_teacher 0 points1 point ago

Usually, such tests do a little cover-your-ass by stating "choose the best answer". "90%" is the "best" answer because it rules out a greater proportion of what would be incorrect.

Every time I write a test, I make damn sure each multiple choice problem can have only one right answer, and that none of the others can be misconstrued. This includes re-reading older tests I've already written. It is basic due diligence for teachers.

Unfortunately, this is a driver's exam written by an employee of a company who likely has many other tasks besides writing a good test. In this case, it makes far more sense for the test taker to simply exert their best judgment in outsmarting the test writer.

BETTER LIVING THROUGH CHEMISTRY!!!

This is consistent with a fact that many people are not aware of. People are aware that most metals (which are in a reduced oxidation state) tend to oxidize. What they may not also know is that finely divided metals will oxidize much more rapidly due to the huge proportional increase in surface area. As a result, the oxidation occurs at a much higher temperature. These metal particles/shavings are essentially undergoing spontaneous combustion.

the industry calls for these looks

The industry is simply responding (in most cases) to what the people will buy. We as a society are calling for these looks.

Because the euro is currently so unstable, you have to specify it twice, to help support it. 1000 euro euros may sound like a lot, but in the current climate, it's probably only enough to buy a small yacht.

BETTER DYING THROUGH CHEMISTRY!!!

200-300 YARDS (182.88-274.32 Meters).

Considering the range of inaccuracy in your original English estimate (250 ± 50 yards), the extra significant figures in the metric measurement would be far too precise. It is likely sufficient to say 180-270 meters, or maybe even 200-300 meters.

This is right. I thought about the exact same reaction, and the colors (though pixellated and a bit hard to discern) appear to corroborate this. There are a bit of yellow and some browns, which (IIRC) are exceedingly similar to the colors I've seen when doing this.

A single can of tuna provides about 80% of the protein needed in a day (whether in oil or water). That means you had close to two weeks worth of protein in a single sitting.

Nothing more daunting than a hole of trees- 15 in Pier Park, Portland, OR by WaffleIron278in discgolf

Sounds better than it first appears. If the length is shorter and a full-strength (read: less likely to be precise) throw is not needed, then that's not so bad.

As a new discer, I find this less than appealing. The score winds up more of a random crapshoot than actually testing skill. If one could just as easily post a 9 as a 2, then that's not a very well-designed hole to me.
