How do I create NATURAL sounding drum patterns? by satellitehopperin WeAreTheMusicMakers

In Reaper, there is a 'humanize' feature. Is that the same thing?

Hi there. Sounds like you're having a pretty rough time and I'm sorry to hear that. It's hard to give an answer for something to combat this other than headphones, however in your case it seems a lot of your triggers involve seeing what's causing the sound as well as hearing it. This is something I can understand.

If you try to avoid looking at whatever is making the sound, would that help? It might be worth trying that. The first thing that came to mind was some sort of self hypnosis to get you into a state of calm when you hear these things so you can 'find a happy place'. I think with a little reading around the subject it might be quite easy to go somewhere else in your head just to avoid the immediate situation temporarily.

A suit bag, the type they use at dry cleaners, are also a good option as the zip down the front makes for easy access. Perhaps harder to procure though.

Is that a Yamaha P-95?

I've two (very short) pieces I'd love some feedback on. I've been trying to make video game incidental music for the last 6 months or so. by cheesysamin WeAreTheMusicMakers

Thanks for the advice. I've definitely heard those soundtracks whilst playing, but I'll listen to them solo for some education.

Glad you liked the tracks.

This is great. The first piece you refer to the melody getting repetitive which I was a bit worried about but wanted someone to clarify. I'd never though about getting an A and B and going between the two, so thanks for that tip.

I'm so glad you think the mood is good. My main goal was to get some sort of emotion in both of them, and the staccato hits I'm the most proud of.

Thanks again!

If you could let me know which one you prefer, and which one you think has the best production value. I've been playing instruments for years but not much composition, and mastering is completely new to me.

Thanks for listening.

If you post a sample track, or at least give some indication of what the genre is, or the style you were going for, then this would go a lot better.

Would you mind elaborating on your muted movie soundtrack process? That sounds fascinating. Thanks.

So, now that everyone has hopefully had a chance to listen to their haul: what are your favorite (and most disappointing) RSD exclusive releases? by jking800in vinyl

When I asked the guy in the shop if he'd got one in he said 'I don't know why it's so expensive so don't ask'..Are the prices standardised for RSD? At least on a regional level?

I had this in mind, but it was priced at £70. Did you pay that much?

this has got to be one of the most fundamental common misunderstandings of how the moon works

That does make me feel better, I will learn it properly.

From wikipedia:

-the lunar hemisphere that is not lit by the sun at any particular moment in time, or less commonly

-the far side of the Moon that is permanently turned away from the Earth (although it receives approximately the same amount of light as the near side of the moon)

It would appear we are both right, just mines the 'less commonly' definition!

Well, that's not the dark side of the moon. The dark side of the moon is the bit that you can't see. The dark bit in the photo is the shadow the earth is casting on the moon.

As I type this, I'm beginning to think it's a case of me misunderstanding that phrase my entire life.

This is exactly what I think I need. Someone who knows more about what they're doing to come round and see what they can do.

How long did it take you to learn how to play with both hands? by playuhhin WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]cheesysam 1 point2 points ago

I have played piano for sometime. What have you tried doing to work on this situation?

I'd start off going back to basics. Like really far back. Play a scale in your right hand, and when you hit the root note with that hand, hit the chord with your left hand. Do this a lot. You don't need to look at your left hand, line it up, and hit the chord when you watch your right hand hit the root of the scale.

Do a little rhythm with the chord in your left now. Or maybe break up the chord and play each note of it with every other note in the right hand. Do this a lot.

When you've got the rhythm and some very minor finger independence in your left hand, try doing the whole arpeggio for one octave in your left. Do this a lot. Work yourself up, slowly.

When you're ready, find the most simple piece in the most simple piano book which has melodies which alternate hands. If it means going to the kids section and buying 'My first piano book', go do that. Play the pieces. Do this a lot.

I've been playing piano 10 years, and on every new piece I begin to learn, I learn each hand separately. Good luck to you, you'll get there, the time is worth it.
