Dr. Robert L. Spitzer, Noted Psychiatrist, Apologizes for Study on Gay ‘Cure’ by catamorphismin SRSGSM

I know, right? the article talks about him crying, but henever had to be a teenager in reparative therapy camp.

yes, but their understanding is wrong, and respecting that understanding just gives them more power. these aren't sweet harmless angelic women exuding 'female energy' and hibiscus tea. They're abusers. what you're saying erases the power imbalance between cis women and trans women, which does not favor trans women. and no one should feel obligated to be nice to their abuser, or to accept their abuser's narrative for why they abuse. when you hold victims to that standard, it just piles on more abuse.

hopefully we'll soon reach the day when the denial of subjectivity to trans women is seen for what it is- emotional abuse- though bug has done a lot more beyond that.

I'm kind of skeptical about the proposition that a trans woman has the power to activate such triggers for a cis woman. Like, the only times I've seen it happen, the cis women were very obviously being disingenuous (e.g. "your existence triggers me")... but I've known it to happen plenty in the other direction.

Well, I'll drive you to [redacted] again anytime, though I know you shouldn't have to do it and it doesn't help with specialists.

It must be nice to be able to deal with your trauma in an emotionally detached, cis-people-friendly format, but it doesn't mean you get to shame other people who have been victimized about dealing with their pain and rage the ''wrong way''.

Also, I'm not sure why pointing out that rape culture exists is "sexual taunting"? Are we not allowed to talk about rape culture now?

Right, but those are solutions that require organizing. They're definitely necessary long-term. But part of me still wants to believe that there's an escape hatch in the short-term.

Even I feel compelled to find a solution for you that will work in the existing system... and that must be part of my own desire to believe that it's not really that bad, that there's a way out if you try hard enough. :-\

Heh, well, Lincoln is still "controversial". Buchanan apparently isn't, despite what the folks over at Wikipedia think (the article on him quotes a source who says she knows that Buchanan had low testosterone levels, and therefore that he must have been asexual, from looking at his face?!)

Guys, can we talk about proper attire? by Kotik93in ftm

actually not, diets actually cause weight gain in the long term (> 5 years). people, like every other animal, come in different sizes. it's best to love your body and do healthy things, even if you don't conform to advertisers' ideals (which are all based on cis people anyway, so what does that have to do with us?)

it's really fucked up to fat-shame, just so you know.

Why Are Cis People Responsible? by catamorphismin lgbt

[–]catamorphism[S] -1 points0 points ago

Perpetuating a power dynamic that says it isn't worth an extra 10 seconds of your time as a cis person to think about it and realize you might google for "cis people", "cis trans", or "cis gender", but trans people are obligated to take their time to explain it to you, is an awful thing, yes.

How do I convince people that using "gay" and related terms as a pejorative is bad? by Cespyin SRSGSM

Start calling things or people "hetero" if you dislike them.

When I google "cis people", I get this as the first google hit:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cisgender

What result did you get when you googled it?

Why bother leaving a smartass response when you can just answer my question?

Because I'm not here to give you free education. I am, however, here to make fun of you for being willfully ignorant.

Why would they do that when you can google it yourself?
