Goddamnit Reddit. People make fun of art around here A LOT and it kind of gets me down. Something similar to this makes the front page all too often and the top comments are always (thank god) the same.

Fashion is a form of art.

The aesthetics of EVERY product have to come from someone's imagination - and like everything - there's a fucking spectrum. Where you fall in your ability to create, like, or hate something aesthetically is just part of who you are.

There's not as much to "get" in any form of visual art as the haters believe. It's about making the viewer at least have a reaction. Yours was negative. Mine was positive. That in no way means I'm "better" than you.

Get over it.

Also it's ok to say "I don't understand this," but the usual gut reaction around here is to just scoff. Total bummer DOODZ

To those looking for an answer on EQ training....

I did Golden Ears for a long time. It helps with everything from EQ, to compression, to delay, to reverb. It's amazing, but takes a long time and is fairly expensive.

I personally would avoid training with only headphones and only with your current monitors. Using all different kinds of speakers will really help you understand how you need to learn about your room's natural frequency bumps and how different EQing can affect different set ups (ie cars with a massive sub vs ipod headphones)

FreqtrainSE and IGoldenEars are two fairly decent iphone apps that can help train in the classic golden ears style. They do boosts and cuts of the standard octaves of EQ on both white noise, pink noise, and music. Not sure if they're on android.

which is quite funny considering how much less of a community feel there are to each of those outlets. this small subreddit has massive potential simply because of reddit's inherant crowd-sourced moderation system. if people think you're a jerk, you just disappear into the ether instead of causing insane drama.

It is interesting how the show can sometimes go down the TMZ/social media/gossip route... I always wonder if the show will be able to correctly harness social media so that it will actually promote itself rather than just rehash trending news.

Both the hosts and staff have such large twitter followings, yet are still surprised by the banality of it all. Twitter is 90% retarded due to it's inherently selfish nature. An environment like Reddit allows for legitimate discussion without people constantly rehashing show jokes and references, some of which are now what? 10 years old?

I feel as though if we can prove that they do have intelligent fans that aren't awkward goons, they might step up the wit and humor.

The first of one of last week's shows where Jim and Opie got personal was fucking amazing. It was a real conversation like you'd hear on a great podcast a la Mohr Stories or WTF, yet some idiots immediately call and complain just wanting to hear about tits. Fuck.

sam is still just ok. i enjoy his background quips once in awhile. they can be really really funny if you catch them.

When he's really manning a third mic, I feel like his nervous immaturity still gets the best of him after awhile. He loves stirring the pot ala opie, but only between the production staff and his over the top attempt at having a radio personality competes with the perceived "real" way in which O&A communicate. You can almost hear him using finger quotes when he pronounces certain words.

That said, I still listen to the after show and know that he's only getting better. Once he tames the nervous awkward energy he'll be able to entertain much more.

i dont understand why people are surprised at piss poor results when they just pick random local recording studios rather than finding a good producer/engineer first. just because a guy owns a studio doesn't mean he can get you the sounds you're looking for.
