TASMANIAN independent MP Andrew Wilkie will back the government's watered down poker machine reforms, ending months of speculation and negotiation. by who_are_you_reallyin australia

[–]carnage_joe 2 points3 points ago

The first rule of modern politics is ideological purity = political impotence. Being willing to negotiate is the only way to get anything you want done. The Greens understand this, I'm glad Andrew Wilkie has learned this too.

After all the recent attention surrounding CityRail, I present to you my finished Anagram Map! by CharonXin sydney

[–]carnage_joe 1 point2 points ago

Wouldn't it be cool if we created a massive campaign where for one day of the year, let's call it Anagram Day, the people of Sydney replace the name of their local station with the anagram version from this map.

Don't follow them down that rabbit hole. You'll end up stuck in their world or poorly thought-out ideas and immature sense of humour.

Could you explain the climate sensitivity multiplier to a non-climate expert? I didn't get a lot from:

Climate sensitivity refers to the effect of net feedbacks from a given forcing.

Thanks for taking the time to respond to my questions btw :)

Can you explain why you say a doubling in CO2 concentration (from 280 ppm pre industrial to 560 ppm) results in a 1°C increase but the final paper you cite claims a 1.5-2.0°C increase from the 2000 mean temperature? Especially considering that mean temperatures have already risen by ~0.75°C since 1900.

" Too many progressives are now looking back at the period of Malcolm Turnbull’s leadership with such rose-coloured glasses that they see him as the solution to all our ills." by Ycleptin australia

Penny Wong has my respect, despite following the party line on gay marriage.

Perhaps respect was the wrong word. 'Support' would have been better. Support from the left despite being a Liberal member.

Turnbull's job is to oppose the NBN, but what he says and what he believes are not always aligned,

I like how when Turnbull does this, he gets respect from the left, but if a Labor politician does it, then they're poll-driven scum who don't believe in anything.

It seems that all a politician has to do is take a stand against their own party's policy on one issue (e.g. climate change) and they will instantly become the messiah to the other side. No matter how much they compromise on other policies.
